Question on hiring a shipper, truck, delivery, pick-up...
Say I see something I can't live without on Ebay...Not like a liver or kidney, but something like a nice roll-top desk. The ad says "local pick-up only". How do I go about finding a shipper or trucking company to go to where this item is, pack it up and bring it to me, or to a location nearby me?

Watch the TV show Shipping Wars. Hire Jennifer.
Jennifer Brennan - Meet the Shippers - aetv.com
But seriously I guess it depends where the item is and where you live as to who you hire. Not enough information to go on. Is it cross country or around the corner??

Question on hiring a shipper, truck, delivery, pick-up...
You can put it on shipping.com and people looking for a hotshot load will bid down on the shipping. Apparently A&E has now built a show around it.
If you have any local hotshot trucking companies call and see if they have any trucks in that area needing a back haul. Back haul rates are usually half.

Any "blanket wrap" moving company will do that. I have used United Van Lines but any of the larger companies should be trustworthy. They will sometimes wait until they have a truck in the area that has some space left.
We moved medical equipment using them all the time. No real problems in doing this for 30 years.

Thanks all,
I used "uship" and put my offer in and literally 1 minute later got a reply from a guy who was headed back this way from NYC. We worked out a price of $200.00 to pick up a roll-top desk tomorrow to be here on weds.
