When you post "I'll take it," isn't that supposed to mean that you have the cash right then and there, rather than the sale being contingent on; momma's increasing your allowance, an income tax return, winning lottery ticket, etc?

SPF means sold, but seller has not received funds.

Sometimes a buyer fails to follow through, thus the 'pending'.

The seller means he's waiting for the check to clear.

AH! So then it is just SOLD. "Pending Funds" always sounds like the buyer is scraping up the cash...

Unless they are next door neighbors, I think it would take a few days for payment to arrive to the Seller if by check, money order.

I used to use SPF to designate that a commitment had been made, but that payment had not been received, so that if something happened, the ad could resume. However, the incidence of defaults is very low here, so I just mark the item sold. If the sale does fall through, however, the mods can unlock the ad, and it can be brought back to the top for other buyers.

That makes sense.

In Illinois even private sales have a waiting period. So it also gets used here (in IL) to start the clock so to speak. Usually at the end of 24/72 hours the exchange of goods is made.

SPF means the buyers check or money order is in the mail and the seller hasn't reveived it yet. To me the sale isn't a done deal till the seller reveived the $$$ in his hand. Its really a pending sale. But i do watch it for being relisted just incase.

SPF is generally posted by the seller not the buyer.
BPG is generally posted by the buyer
(bought pending gun)
SPG means the seller does not have the gun he is selling and won't get it until he gets the money
BPF means the buyer has bought it but doesn't have the money yet.
An "I'll take it" acts as an agrement to purchase. Another way to indicate an agreement to purchase is to announce "mine" in the post followed up with a PM with your address and requesting the sellers address to send da money. :D
Hope this helps.

I've never seen any sense in it, myself.

Let's say I post a Registered Magnum for 50 bucks. Our learned attorney from the Bayou jumps on it. I mark it SOLD.

Week goes by. No money. So I email him. "Hey Dude, have you sent a check?"

He replies that he had to get a new trollin' motor for his Whaler, and he'll have to back out of the deal.

Dayum.

So I repost it. "Registered Magnum for sale. Deal fell through, so we try again. Fifty bucks".

How is marking the ad "Sold, Pending Funds" any better than "Sold"?

To me, it would be saying that I did not trust the buyer to follow through on his commitment to purchase the gun. That until I actually see money, I believe he is all talk and no action.

I find it insulting.

I have read feedback where some people do not follow up or they get buyers remorse. Thats why i think some people put second in line or even third. If the seller is dealing with a unknown person total trust to me is earned. If someone i knew was selling a reg mag and he wrote sold pending funds i may wait a bit before i commit to another gun. Sometimes a deal is busted just over shipping issues.

Thanks for the laugh. This thread sure puts peoples problems in perspective............Sold...SPF.....Waiting for Smurf to drop money by......Third Aunt's first cousin promises to buy it.........Regardless, It is gone unless it is reposted for sale again. Sounds like your life is excellent and very managed to have this rubbing you the wrong way. Congratulations and thanks again........:) Oh, What were you late on buying(cash in hand) that you wanted?
