Default Anyone else just miss ammo? Frustrating

I wanted to go to Walmart yesterday at 4 pm but got sidetracked with the family. They had bricks of .22 in stock until 7:30 pm.

I found out today had I gone I could have gotten three bricks easy. Grrrrrrrr, this ammo shortage sucks. I only have 450 rounds left, a new Henry Golden Boy and a 13 year old son who burns through ammo! :-)

I did get a box of 100 rounds of .357 for $52 Remington brand today. They had about 10 boxes left at 5 pm at the one in Hamburg NY plus some 40 S&W boxes - they just put them out at 4:40 pm if there are any WNY folks.

One thing for sure I am stopping every day after work now until I get .22 rifle ammo. I will not be caught again and will be adding more and more ammo until I am stockpiled in the 1000s.

Ah Grasshopper, one must learn from past history as it tends to repeat itself.

Reloading is also a very good thing.

Young grasshoppers should learn to shoot accurately and not just blow through 22lr. A bock of 50 should last much longer than it does.

Default Grasshopper more like Locust

My son is 13, 6'1" and 155 lbs. He eats more like a locust. Problem is he can hit 10 out of 10 steel plate open sites in 10 to 12 shots so he not just spraying and praying...he is a surprisingly good shot.

Plus without ammo can't really spend quality time at the range with my son and, of course, the pizza and wings afterwards! :-)

JOKE:

Saturday morning I lucked out and was able to buy several cases of ammo.
On the way home, I stopped at the gas station where a drop-dead gorgeous blonde was filling up her car at the next pump.
She looked at the ammo in the back of my car and said in a very sexy voice, "I'm a big believer in barter, big boy". "Would you be interested in trading sex for ammo?"
I thought a few seconds and asked, "What kinda ammo ya got?"

Keep a sharp eye out. Earlier today on Cabela's web site they were selling Remington 1400rd buckets for $59 and CCI Tactical 1500rd for $99 with dry-storage box. I've seen worse prices lately.

It's still hard to pay that much. I guess if you need it you need it. The ammo shortage is probably the only reason more guns are available.

Ammo will come back, don't worry.

Take the boy fishin' 'til it does.

Buy rimfire ammo by the 5000 round case when it does become available again and explain to your boy about politics and why you have to do it that way.

As the president once said, "... this is a teachable moment."

That it is. I took my eleven year old into Walmart, Bass Pro, Gander Mtn and told him to look at those empty shelves and let it burn in real good.

Same thing here, walmart doesnt have any 22, neither do we. It sucks. But the other day dad bought 3 boxes of .380 for $24. Somehow he got real lucky.

I turn 18 in a few days, so every chance i get im going to stop and check if they get any in.

To late to worry about the ammo shortage now. Learn from your mistakes and this will not happen again. Don

My habits have not changed since last summer. I refuse to be bothered by some missing ammo. I go about my everyday routine and of i come across some ammo for a good price ....great! If not then nothing has changed since years and years.

Its a short life no point worrying about stupid ammo

I'm cashing in...or cashing out. It doesn't matter to me. I'll still keep some on hand, but I'm going to sell 15 of the 550 packs and 8 bricks of Winchester 22s. If I can harvest $1,150 bucks for it, I'll help out the boys who didn't save any. I've still got 2 cases of the 550s (11000 rounds) plus a bunch of old assorted junk. And I just don't care. I'm not really a gambler, but any time you can get 3 or 4 times your investment, its time to cash out. The common sense approach is that sometime in the next couple of years the shelves will be restocked (if at a higher price). Then I'll decide what to do.

I'm just angry with my stupid nephew who stole his grandfathers 2 full cases of remington dog bone 22s when he passed away in 1985. But then everyone was. He even stole his Granpa's High Standard 22 to shoot the stuff. I guess he figured Grandpa was dead and he got there first.

Sounds smart to me. Just curious, do you have to do anything special to ship it? I have some extra, but I'm not sure how to ship it. Thanks.

I'm selling mine (or trying to) at a gun show. Shipping ammo is a problem because of the extra fee.

No extra fee to ship ammo. Just ground and an ORM-D "Small arms ammunition" sticker. You DO generally have to ship from a depot/staffed location, not Kinkos or the UPS Store, though. Hazmat is only for primers and powder.

As stated above. No extra fees just go to UPS MAIN HUB and write "ORMD" on the box and ship ground. Right after new years i shipped a 55lbs wooden crate of Brit Radway Green 7.62Nato. Thats 750 rounds of 308. Shipped from Pa to Co for about $60

Do you remember those days when you can just walk up to a shelf and grab a few boxes of ammo and it was guaranteed to be in stock :/

Well if you have it in your hands, it would be guaranteed in-stock. Although you can get it cheaper at the place that is out-of-stock.

Default .357 Ouch

100 rounds of .357 Remington for 52 is roughly 26 a box which is the normal price around here unless there is a sale. Are folks getting it cheaper?

Catching ammo is as easy as walking in the closet. My wife bought me a couple boxes several months ago as a gift. When I walk through Wal-mart i remind those around me that's why we reload.

Yes-I have seen more than a few frustrated people staring at an empty display week after week.

While looking for some tax papers in my messy office I "discovered" one of those Ram-line speed loaders for 10/22 mags full of around 300 rounds. I was delighted, I bet they still shoot fine after 20 years. I could never get that thing to work, however.
