okay, it's not a S&W. tell me about this gun
There's a bit of background to this story but I'll just cut to the chase. I went to the lgs this morning and saw this in the used gun case. The attached slip said nothing other than "Dan Wesson 357". I looked all over for a model number and such but there was only the city of manufacture which was Monson, Mass. and Dan Wesson Arms stamped in the frame. As you can see, the medallion on the stocks say DWA (Dan Wesson Arms is my guess) rather than the the DW script I'm familiar with. Locks up tight, trigger sweet and other than a turn line, the blueing is perfect. Asking price was $399 so it went home with me. Can you guys fill in the blanks for me? Can I switch barrels on it (it didn't come with a tool)? Any ammo restrictions? Model number? Anything you guys can tell me would be much appreciated.

Never had one but understood you could change barrels and many grip options easily. They claimed by the barrel being screwed in with the shroud kind of "stretching" the barrel from both ends led to better accuracy due to not vibrateing or harmonics or whatever.

That is a pretty nice example of a Dan Wesson model 15 (I think). If it says "Monson" on it, it's an older better one. Barrels and grips are getting pricey but worth looking into. If the grip is original to the gun I think it's later production. There's no reason to take the barrel off unless you're switching it, so don't do it. You'll lose the adj. (gap) between the cyl and barrel.

The only comment I have, "Nice Looking Revolver"
Price? Someone made out on that sale and it wasn't the seller.
Just checked out a few on line.
Good Luck with it, one again, nice looking revolver.

Agreed, after Monson they moved to Palmer I think and then NY. All JcMAck says is pretty much what I remember.

It is simple. If there is a nut with two slots at the front of the muzzle, you can change the barrel.
But frankly. It is a Dan Wesson. You can change the barrel.
There is a special tool for it. That dous not mean that this works good.
I ruined the nut of my Dan Wesson with it. Beside that I scratched the barrelhousing with it to.
But I am not that handy.
I am not that fond of this revolver. Aldo it is a good shooter I do not like the lock and working of it.

That is a beautiful beautiful revolver. My knowledge of and experience with Dan Wesson guns is limited but I believe them to be very good quality guns. I also think that is a very VERY good price. I'd by that myself and even if the price was higher I'd snap it up with out blinking.
