A "REVERSE KARMA" for some 9MM ammo...
Guys, a friend of ours is in need.
Our fellow Forum member S1mp13m4n just bought his very first firearm - a Ruger SR9C 9MM, and he can't find ammo.
Several posters have said that they'd help out if they lived close, but the cost of shipping a whole box of ammo is too much money.
My idea:
What if a bunch of us each send him just 10 rounds of 9MM? How many guys would be willing to help out a new shooter? If a few if us sent him just 10 rounds, the cost wouldn't be horrible, it wouldn't deplete anybody's stash, and it wouldn't take long for him to get enough ammo to at least start learning his new gun.
How 'bout it? Any takers?
Maybe he can PM his address to anybody that commits and we can help this new shooter get started.
Maybe anyone who sends ammo can include what it is - brand, grain weight, etc. so when this shortage ends, he knows what to look for.
If S1mp13m4n wants to play along and give any participants his address, I will be the first one to commit to sending some.
Here are some links to his threads that tell the story:
I finally bought my first gun
I think I purchased an expensive paperweight

Well that gets a trip to UPS, or FedEx hub, not the stores, since it is a ORD-M item.

I am not sure what to say here. My eyes are tearing typing this. I live in a small but nice 2 bedroom apartment with my wife and 4 year old daughter. When the Sandy Hook shooting happened I was so shaken by it because that could have been my daughter. I am in college going after a 4 year degree here later in life. My wife is going to finish her 4 year degree in psych and graduate this summer. She will start an internship and go on to grad school. We live on about $32k a year so money is tight. After months or reading, learning, and taking classes on guns I was finally able to get my first gun when tax money came in. You know what? I hope I never need the gun for what it was designed to do. I hope what I have is a hobby gun. After Sandy Hook I became committed to joining the NRA, emailing and calling the higher ups about our gun rights, and committed myself to understanding guns, terminal ballistics, and amorers classes on the guns I was interested in. Due to money I am interested in reloading. The saving is huge when you can make a 9mm round for $0.10-$0.15 compared to $0.50-$1.00 for a factory load....well that is huge. I do not mind putting in the time to load my own ammo. This idea is a great one and thank you very much. The thought alone for the ammo help means a lot to me. To borrow a line from Hickok45 "life is good".

It cannot go by US POSTAL service!
Has to go UPS or Fedex...
I found UPS easier in my area. ( Fedex near me said it had to go overnight... cha ching)
It CANOT be shipped from a UPS STORE.... has to be a main hub, and on box sides, in black marker, you need to write ORM-D ( in about a 3 inch length or so... not cover the whole box!)

HB ... Since you're a NYer, you can only send 7 rounds, not 10.

I don't have any 9mm ammo right now but I have a lot of 9mm brass. If you know anyone that reloads, I'll be glad to send fifty or so rounds of primed brass or a couple hundred rounds unprimed, your choice. If you want the primed, I'll still include one-fifty unprimed and I'll decap and run them through the tumbler to clean them. Just let me know.

I am reading about reloading to get the idea. I like the idea of doing the work myself and being able to make my own 9mm rounds for 10-15 cents a round compared to 50 cents plus for a store bought ammo. I contacted Lee Pecission and they told me to get the Lee hand loader and 9mm die set in a kit. That was $300 or so but no one has it or the reloading supplies, doh.

he's already been askin about getting into reloading.
I'd say shipping him some brass would save him some pain.

You can give an ORM-D shipment to any driver, assuming you have an account to print address labels.

Yes.
I don't think primed brass can be, but spent brass is ok.

Yes! The only restrictions are powder, primers or loaded ammo. At least that is my understanding. Someone may know more than me, though that is always what I have been told.

You know, you can buy ammo online and have it shipped to your residence...so, I was wondering if a FFL dealer could ship a few rounds for you, to a residence? If you have a good relationship with your local dealer, and explained the deal, maybe he would agree to ship a few rounds for you at his cost? Assuming he can do that, of course.

That is interesting. I bought my gun from them and they had no ammo and did not know when it would be in. I called up there the other day and none for sale. I tried again and they said they only sold ammo for range use only....it could not leave the store....$25.99 a box for 50 rounds. I go up there with the gun...and guess what...no 9mm ammo.
What is being done here with this 9mm karma thread means a lot to me. Thank you all so much.

That is my dad's car. Here are some pics and details:
1961 Ford Galaxie - a set on Flickr
I grew up with that car and it has been a part of my life from a little boy. The car stays in dad's 20x30 garage unless driven. The car might see 500 miles a year if that. Dad has all the number matching parts, but as it sits some parts are not stock such as wheels, tires, ignition system (it came with points), etc. the car sounds good with a deep bass tone exhaust due to Flowmaster mufflers mounted in stock location under the seats close to engine.

Almost like Christmas in March for you.
I did not participate, because I don't own a 9mm, so I have no ammo. Otherwise I would have shipped some to you also as many of these fine people have.
I am waiting for a S&W Shield to show up in 9mm at my LGS.

It was all done on my iPad. My why in the heck my dad drove to the local seminary I have no idea. In a creepy way it is funny. I have video of the car but I must not have uploaded it.

If S1mp13m4n wants to play along and give any participants his address, I will be the first one to commit to sending 10 rounds.

This is a wonderful idea -you're a whale of a guy, HB77. I've never owned a 9mm or I would surely participate.

Same here, I don't have a 9mm and I can't find any 9mm or .38 special ammo anywhere. There's lotsa .40 and .357magnum.

Thank you very much. The car is a cruiser. It will run at 160 degrees water temp and never gets hot. My dad and I painted the car in the late 90s and took it down to bare metal. The car is a mirror with no orange peel. Dad was asked at a cruise in by a local movie producer if they could use the car in a local film. Dad turned it down because he did not trust them to take care of it. The engine is hand built, balanced, and blue printed. Dad and built it in his garage.

My high School friend and I took his '56 Ford down to the Blvd during the filming of American Graffiti in the early '70s. We were able to park on the street during the cruise scenes to help make it period correct.
