Default North Korea threats to attack Austin

In response to that NK Cutie's threat, here is the official Austin TX response plan. Don't ever think that us Texans aren't prepared!

Texas is probably the worst state for NK to attack. There's more fightin' men and women down yonder than in NK, and they're better armed.

Somebody send that little feller a note that reads, "Remember the Alamo!"

I remember doing those duck and cover drills under desks just like those in the film, and burying my cap guns in a badger hole every night so Stalin couldn't find them

Isn't Austin where Chuck Norris hangs out?

What a poor target choice by the next former Dear Leader.

Haven't been to Austin in a long time, but from what I hear, politically speaking, a lot of the rest of Texas wouldn't miss it.

Not going to politix, but culturally,
You are correct, Austin has changed quite a lot. Nothing is sillier than the new Austinite with his "keep austin weird" bumpersticker. They have no idea of what River City was actually about, much less the fierce independence of Texas, as they are quite dependent on government largesse and cultural influence of the hollywood crowd. Many Austinites left years ago and have been replaced by seattleites.

Place is a joke, snarled in a traffic jam, directed by hypocrites.
Besides, why would North Korea bomb an ally?

I was in the 2nd grade when that film was made. I remember all the drills, including instructions to mom to be sure and wash our clothes after an attack to remove the radiation.

lol... As a thankfully EX Austinite (born and raised 1955-1982) I have to laugh at your post brother... And you are 100% right on the mark.

I was back in Austin last week and flew out and of course at the airport the keep Austin weird tee shirts were all over the place.
In one of the shops I commented to the obvious manager my dislike for the slogan and she took obvious offense and mentioned how many they sold..

I think that about sums that up....

Austin ... you can have the place..

For the life of me I can not imagine why N.Korea would have an interest in bombing Austin...

Default Austin, North Korea

Ended up in Austin (Bergstrom AFB) after a stint in Hawaii (Hickam AFB). Moving from Hawaii to Texas just about killed my mother and sister. In 1979, the downtown Austin skyline was the capitol building and the infamous UT tower, maybe one small bank building. After years in Honolulu, Austin seemed tiny.

Hadn't been there in quite some time until last October when I attended a convention in Austin. There are a FEW places that I still appreciate: Ironworks BBQ, Cisco's, Fonda San Miguel, Manuel's. But the general feel and attitude is entirely alien. It would seem that aliens, not North Koreans, have already invaded our planet, as evidenced by places like Austin.

Traffic jams darn near 24 hours a day. "Extra-territorial Jurisdiction" attitude means that the city must put in its 2 cents on anything and everything, wielding power over and determined to bully the county and the state. NOT the place it used to be. "Keep Austin Weird"? Yeah, right. Maybe 30 years ago... They actually had to DECIDE whether or not to use the old Bergstrom AFB when moving their airport...

Sad part is how Austin claims to be such a musical town with tons of venues, special events, and other musically oriented functions. Musicians in Austin are a dime a dozen. Professional touring talent plays for tips while the bars make bank. Big events like ACL have little to do with music or artists and a lot to do with money.

Another thing I noticed is that law enforcement and the fire department have some sort of high powered light racks that are darn near blinding down there. I would think that the effects of these light racks would cause mass seizures to an invading North Korean force.

something I don't understand, these videos were made after the bombings of japan. Did they really think that ducking and covering was going to help during a nuclear/atomic strike? Or was this more of a peace of mind thing.

Yep, I remember the B-52's. One of my neighbors dad was a B-52 pilot and he got us into a 52 simulator once, we were like 10 years old, how cool was that...

About the only thing I look forward to in Austin is BBQ at the Salt Lick out in Driftwood.. Darn Lake Travis is all but dried up now.. and over run with idiots.
Van Morrison at Armadillo WHQ cost me $6... Charlie Daniels and Marshall Tucker in the same show went for $10. First time I saw Willie his hair was shorter than mine(short) and he wore a string tie with cuffed trousers with shined shoes... I remember dem ol Greezy Wheels..., Rusty Wier (RIP)..

a long list of others..

Paradise Lost.... so much for progress..

Ya, but they don't want to leave TX.

Are you sure NK didnt threaten to attack the US capitol, and TX just assumed they meant Austin?

They're talkin' about Austin, though. It's where all the patchouli oiled, Birkenstock mandel wearing California liberals go now that they're done with Colorado.

From what I've heard a lot of Texans would chip in some help.

Here comes a true story. My father was Ohio born, but my mother was a Texan through and through. They met when my father got a job in Austin, and they found pretty quickly that they liked one another. One of their favorite stories from an early date involved a conversation in which my father asked for a point of information: "Who was President when Texas joined the Union?"

My mother's immediate reply was, "Anson Jones."

You Texans will get that. If you thought the answer was James K. Polk, odds are you come from some other state.

If Kim Jung Un isn't careful, Gov. Perry will send a Texas Ranger after him. And I don't mean a baseball player.

I still say they ought to send the SEAL's in on a capture mission, grab that little peckerwood, bring him back here and get medieval on him. First off, fix that *^&% haircut

Gee Caj, why would we send a Seal. We'd just send a Texas Ranger to go pick him up.

There are a multitude of reasons for the "Don't Mess with Texas" statement.

One is Grandma keeps a snake in her purse. What kind you say? An Anaconda of the Colt species. Sometimes she carries the Texas Pet of choice, a Diamondback. Oh my, Granny and her Snakes. Of course Grandma sure loves her 29's of the 8 3/8 inch kind. Don't tell anyone but Granny has been seen in public with a few of those European fellows that go by the names of HK45 and Sig X5 L1.

Now I'm telling tales now but Granny has a crush on this Kimber 8400 Montana fellow. He is kind of a Classic guy. Big and powerful in the 300 Winchester Magnum kind of way. She gets this smile when they are together out there on the Range together.

I sure hope that misguided child from NK doesn't mess with Granny's beloved Texas even that funny place they call Austin. A Texas Granny is a Force of Nature and one best left undistrubed.

Yes it has changed, yes there are newcomers that would rather remake it to Portland or Boston (or fill in the blank) than assimilate. But it is still a nice place. We used to stand in the school corridors with our faces to the wall in our nuke drills. I guess it would make it easier to get an accurate body count. l'll do that when young Kim's army rows across the ocean. Maybe that'll leave something to eat for the emaciated left behinds.

You know whereof you speak. My Austin grandmother (1874-1974) would have grabbed some of the posters in this thread by the ear and hauled them out in the backyard to slap them on the side of the head with a large wooden spoon and tell them, "When you talk about my town, you keep a civil tongue in your head."

Well, if they attack Austin, it won't bother me much. Tell 'em just to be sure not to go any farther north than Pflugerville and no farther south than Kyle.
