Another tread about pie: I have strong beliefs.
My late Father had some strong beliefs. We didn't always see eye-to-eye on everything, but on the subject of pie we were in total agreement. He opined, correctly, I might add, that "NO pie should EVER be cut in more than six pieces". I have believed this ever since, and tried to operate on that principle, much to the chagrin of my in-laws.
Yesterday was my birthday. The Lovely Missus P&R Fan got me a razzleberry pie. I just had the first piece.......I cut it in fourths.
I'm sure Dad looked down and smiled.

I'm pretty flexible when it comes to pie. I love pie....all pie. I don't care how many pieces you cut a pie into as long as I can get all I want, I can eat half a pie in one piece or in a dozen pieces. All the same to me.
I do have one small preference about some pies though and my wife and I are on opposite sides of this issue. On some pies, namely chocolate, lemon, coconut I like a good meringue. She hates meringue. She especially hates it when I call it "calf slobber" I had an uncle that called it that when I was a kid and I got to calling it that myself.
Yep, nothing quite like a nice tall calf slobber with the raised points just turning brown. MMMMM-mmmmmm

Depends on the pie. My wife makes a Derby Pie( similar to a pecan pie except you add chocolate chips in) and eight is a non-lethal sugar OD.
My FIL's aunt used to make a chess pie that cut into about 12 pieces was as large as the slices needed to be. You could feel the sugar buzz increasing by the forkful. Of course a good apple or sweet potato pie is perfect in fourths. My $.02

In one of the Hopalong Cassidy books (don't remember which one, I read it as a kid), Hoppy stops in at this ranch, and the ranch-wife asks him if he'd like a piece of pie. O'course he says, "Yes ma'am", and sits down to the table while she cuts him a piece of pie and pours him some coffee. As he's eating he says, "You know, I hear that back East they cut pie into six pieces".
The woman, in a tone of wonder, says, "Why would anybody want a piece of pie that little?"
Don't remember anything else about the book, but that conversation stayed with me.

Happy birthday! Any right-thinking person, presented with a razzleberry pie on his birthday, would have to cut it a maximum of four pieces. What else are birthdays good for?
Well, maybe gifts of guns or ammo. But I stand by what I said about pie.

I agree on the number of pieces doesn't matter.My favorite pie is round.No wait maybe rectangle as in a cobbler.Don't care on the shape,just cut it already.

Pie r square . No pie round, cobbler r square. Did you have a jumbo scope of vanilla ice cream with Razzelberry pie? That's the way to eat pie with ice cream while pie is still warm. Eight pieces is a lot of pieces, just cut is half I know I can eat one slab of pie

I guess my favorite pie is rhubarb or strawberry rhubarb, but I sure like a good cherry pie made with semi sweet cherries. I had two dwarf cherry trees in Iowa and they would provide enough cherries for one or two pies if you kept the birds off them. My ex wife could make a scratch cherry pie that would be on my request for a last meal. Mine are almost as good.

The nice thing about pie is you can put anything in it from fruit to chicken, try that with a cake.

But, then again, if you go with apple, which I also love, you need to have a big slice of extra sharp cheddar on the side. Like they say, "Apple pie without some cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze."

My wife's great-grandmother had a huge cherry tree in the back yard. The verity was montmorency (sp). All of the family recipes are based on that verity, so I had 2 along with about 16 other cherry trees. The 2 that really mattered had matured enough to produce about 10 pies worth of cherries a year, when a blite killed every cherry tree we had. By the way, having a mulberry tree, keeps the birds out of the cherry trees. Ivan

There isn't a pie made that I don't love. And 6 slices is the perfect size. Of course you can always have 2 or 3 slices. My favorite pie...too many to choose from...but I am partial to key Lime, coconut cream, coconut custard, and all varieties of fruit especially Rhubarb.

I love almost any pie. The only ones I don't like are rhubarb, pecan and mincemeat. I helped my Dad make mincemeat once. It has cow tongue in it, as well as a bunch of fruit and several fifths of booze. Dad made it in an old crock, and stirred it up by hand. He was a Pattern Maker by trade, and always had dirty hands. Very few people know anything about either of those pies, but they are heavenly.
I'll do almost anything for good pie.

I was invited to a neighbors house one time for Christmas and his French Canadian girl friend made a meat pie unlike anything I ever had before or since. Served with mustard.
It was insanely good but certainly not for desert.

Recipe makes three key lime pies.
1 1/2 cups freshly squeezed key lime juice (do not use bottled or Persian lime (big limes) juice. A garlic press can be used to squeeze the key limes if you don't have a key lime squeezer.
3 cans sweetened condensed milk
12 egg yolks seperated
2 tablespoons of key lime zest
Empty all three cans of condensed milk into mixing bowl. Using stand type mixer on lower speed gradually mix the eggs into the condensed milk. Do not allow the mixture to whip. Add in half the key lime juice and continue mixing until evenly distributed, then add the rest of the key lime juice and the zest. Blend until the mixture is uniform. Pour the bowl contents into three graham cracker crusts. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and place the pies in the oven for 10 minutes (12 minutes max). Allow to cool on baking racks and place in the fridge overnight. Cut into as many pieces as you want and serve. (Three pies cut in half equals six pieces. )

Key Lime/No bake,
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1/2 cup juice
blend together thouroghly.
1 envelope Dream Whip
1/2 cup cold milk...beat according to pkg. directions and then fold into the milk and lime mix.
Poor it in the pie shell of your choice and chill.

My wife makes a pie with at least five different types of berries in it...raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and gooseberries. Don't know what she calls it, but it sure is good!

I like pie. I like cake. I like cobbler. I even like the aforementioned pudding. I can't eat any of it anymore, but I sure do like it. My paternal Grandmother made the best blackberry cobbler I've ever had. My maternal Grandmother made the best apple pies I've ever had. My Dad made the best lemon meringue pies I've ever had. My wife's grandmother made the best fried pies I've ever had. They're all baking for Jesus now, but I'm looking forward to an all-you-can-eat buffet when I get there!

Happy Birthday my friend, pie is the thing for a birthday (gotta try the razzleberry). My great granma used to make fried pies. I know that isn't what we're talkin' about here, but lordy mercy, they were heavenly. Toothpick in each one to keep them shut. Fried in lard.
That's what I want for my birthday, a stack of fried apple pies.

Back in the 1950s, when I was a teenager, living in Connecticut, we would go picking blueberries. we would often get enough for a pie or two. My mother would make crust from scratch (no store bought crust as now), and bake pies. They were to die for. I can remember her spreading out flour and water mixture and rolling it with a flour coated rolling pin. We'd have them for dinner: I'd eat two and also my father. My moher would eat one, and we'd hae left from her whole afternoonn' work, one piece But it sure was good.

I make this every year, and now so can you. I have never served mine with mustard, but with pickles or cranberry chutney. Good hot or cold.
Tourtiere
Grind 1 1/2 pounds lean fresh pork and 2 medium onions.
Mix in:
1/2t salt
1/2t pepper
1/2t thyme
1/2t sage
1/4t dry mustard
1/4t ground cloves
1t ground allspice
1/2 C boiling water
Mix well and simmer over very low heat 45 minutes, stirring ocassionally until most of the liquid has evaporated. Mix in a cup of mashed potato and let filling cool.
Make a double crust for a nine inch pie. Fill pie and cut several slits on top. Brush with beaten egg and bake 400 degrees about 45 minutes.
oh yeah, obligatory protection pic. With sides and homemade hard cider.

Best blueberry pie I've ever had - Wells Diner, Wells Maine. Those small Maine blueberrys are in a class by themselves. Outstanding!!

Went to a friends home tonight, My wife took an apple cake and there was cherry pie there too. So it turned out to be a tri-fecta; cake, pie, and ICE CREAM. Life is good! Ivan

Happy B-day.
Do all the cooking here,raised wife and for boys.Pie starts with home made crust.......comes very natural to anyone thats ever mixed up bricklaying mortar(which HAS to be just right).It's one of those things that I can tell you exactly how much ingredients to put in but,if you don't have the knack?Well,now you know what your Grand-ma was talkin about when she said "love" was in her pies.
On the subject of cakes....the secret is "soaking".It Probably was invented by some commercial bakery to salvage an excessively dry cake.Not really a cake guy but.....am figuring out how to soak one.It does make them moist.

I love lemon calf slobber pie. I treated myself last week when I went to a local cafeteria, known for their pie, had a salad, mini plate and pie of apple pie. I took one bite of pie and I felt it was worth the price of the whole meal. Yum.
