Do forum members have a "life" other than the forum?
I read this forum every day for information and entertainment.
I do wonder if members here just get into their "gun mode" while they are posting or if literally their whole life is "guns".
Posts like "I rrreeaallllyy LOVE my S&W model........" I like my guns, I don't love them.
Or "she's been such a good lady to me that great S&W model...." Guns are not gender specific. Please get a life.
Now I know sometimes they are just expressions and the writer is just trying to make a point.
But there other times that I wonder if these members are in need of a life.
One of my favorites; "did I do good?" I am not your mother. Heck if you already bought it, my opinion is not needed.
Or when a member complains about not having dated in a while then proceeds to discuss their collection in great length with pictures and all.
OK........
And yes I do have a life, such and sad as it is. Or did I just prove my point? Ha!
Oh well, just musing.

Well in bad weather this forum and a couple car forums I'm on get a good work out. In better weather I spend a bunch of quality time in my Vette or out on the lake just running around.
Being I have my own shooting range on property I get out there a few times a week also.

I have a wife, kid, wife's kids, job, house, friends, responsibilities, yard work and other chores. I may be logged in a lot but I'm actually here maybe 1/8th the time. Guns are not my sole focus in life, but like oxygen and sex, they are real important when you don't have any. Joe

What other life is there than being here?
It beats having good food, good liquor, a good dog, a great paying job or having a great sex life.

Not sure what your concern is...if I read a post I don't like or don't get anything out of, I just move on. You might want to consider that there are some Forum members that are disabled, & the contact that they get here is very important to them.

I play around with my dachshunds, shoot on the back yard range, reload a bit, play on the internet and sleep/nap. I do what I enjoy doing. I tend to stay away from any place with lots of people, thats why I live in the country and love my fur kids and wife. Being retired means I can pretty well do what I want when I want and feel good about it.

I agree somebody needs a hug! Yeah I've got a life outside this or any other forum I belong to. I do enjoy my time hear and I do learn something occasionally. As for as the terms of endearment are concerned I let it pass. If someone wants to"love" their guns who cares. I love my wife, my kids and my grandkids. I enjoy using my guns.

This is one of my favorites also Dave. Do some of you actually need approval or reassuring when you have made a purchase or a trade. Give us a break. When I see one of these posts I never look at it.

Nope no life other than this site, unless you count two kids, a wife, and a small business that provides for us all..... Drat, sounds like a need to get a life... Then again I can find many a place, on the net and the real world, that are less informative and entertaining.

Actually, even thought I'm retired, I have a full life. I'm not really a gun enthusiast. I'm a "I don't want to get shot in the street by some thug who wants my wallet" enthusiast. I come here to learn what to do and more importantly, what not to do to stay safe. I'm a jazz guitarist and I volunteer to play for some folks at a nursing home. I build large scale model cars and planes form kits and from scratchbuilding materials. I also have gotten into making some gun grips for a 1911 but that's less related to guns and more to woodcarving. I love to watch old movies, especially those old sci fi movies from the 50s and gangster movies from the 30s and 40s. As I mentioned in other threads, I'm a history nut with my main area of study in WWII USAAF history. I used to collect all kinds of USAAF memorabilia but lost most of it in Hurricane Andrew. As far as sports is concerned ---- forgetaboutit. If I feel like exercising, I take a nap until the feeling goes away.

Throughout my scholastic career (including med school) I had teachers say, "the only bad question is the one you don't ask."
So what exactly is wrong with someone asking for reassurance that they did well on a purchase? They're only looking for someone to tell them they did well or maybe they didn't.
What's wrong with people being on the forum more than you are? You jealous?
I think less of people that come on the forum and complain or criticize about what other people post. I've lost a little respect for a couple people today....tsk tsk tsk

Isn't that, in itself, a criticism?
I have a life. I also:
1. Work 50 hours a week, minimum as a wildlife biologist.
2. Volunteer to lead Nature Walks for Hispanic Children, once a month.
3. Work occasional weekends doing Environmental fairs.
4. Leather work (making my own holsters & sheaves)
5. Make my own knives.
6. Make bat houses and bee houses for demonstrations.
7. Learning Irish (Gaelige)
8. Minor gunsmithing
9. Do several campfire talks each summer for State Parks.
10. Shoot during the warmer (i.e. no snow) months.
11. Raise my own veggies and herbs. And preserve them (canning & drying)
12. Three dogs=two of them pointers ('nuff said)
13. Trying to start a Nature Interpretation Program for the Hearing Impaired.
14. Am an advocate for Adult Autism.
15. Watch GOT
16. Watch Vikings
17. Watch Walking Dean
18. Watch SOA
19. Try to read a book a week.

Being retired & a widower I get on the Forum almost every day. Enjoy my kids, grandkids & one Great grand child. Taking care of my wife's 2 Maltese terriers, 11 & 13, takes some time each day. I read a lot & watch the news at night. That's about it.Oh, I forgot. I write my Congressman often & Email some Senators about coming anti gun bills.

Do you read the paper everyday?? Some of us read the forum everyday. I don't always have something to say, but I can read the posts and find out a lot of info before I see it on the news or in our sorry 3 day a week paper.
Do I live guns, No. I do have one with me whenever I have my pants on, but that is my choice in case of snakes, rats, coyotes etc.

I'm also widowed, I'm seventy-five and worked until a month before my seventy-first birthday when I had to retire due to poor health. My kids and their kids live hundreds of miles away and rarely get here. Can't buy guns on Social Security and a very small pension.
So, am I whining? Hell no!
I have friends. I belong to a large fellowship of people whose focus is living life one day at a time. I cook, and damned well. Grow my own herbs, and a few flowers, in containers outside my apartment. I fish when I can. I read, mostly history. I write--give me a little time and I can parody most anything, or I can write serious stuff. I have a little rat terrier rescue dog I walk several times a day. He's a joy, and being a terrier, a challenge.
I visit this forum several times a day. I've owned guns all my life and enjoy reading about them. Can't hunt anymore, but I carry concealed and have for years.
On another forum a guy uses as his signature line a quote from Albert Camus: "In the depth of winter, I finally learned that there is in me an invincible summer." It's now my e-mail signature, because I've learned the same lesson.
Oh yes, I definitely have a life. But thanks, OP, for your concern. No sarcasm intended.

Yup, I own a gun shop, go shooting every Monday (getting ready to load up now), do a lot of Scuba diving, spend a lot of time out on my quad, take care of the animals, sit in the back 40 drinkin' beer and BSing with the neighbors, AND, been married 30 years.
Not only do I have a life, it's a darn good one!

I come to this forum for learning, enjoyment, and to get away from whatever show my husband is watching on television. I also come here as an occasional break from my humdrum work...like now and get to smile from some of the posts which are priceless.

This forum provides a place for like-minded enthusiasts to gather and share their collective passion for S&W. Anyone who has enough time to criticize that, has too much time on his hands.

I'm disabled, I have a degenerative motor nerve condition. I enjoy reading this forum and attempting to contribute when I can. I used to have a life and this and other forums help to keep me from dwelling on what I've lost and what I'm going to lose.
I do some leather work and whatever I can still get my hands to do. I've got a garage full of woodworking tools I can't use anymore. I should sell them but I really don't want to.
I'm on disability and that doesn't cover our bills so we're having to use our savings. Once the mortgage is paid we'll get a little closer to breaking even.
My wife just got a job as a home health care aid here in town. It pays minimum wage for 5.5 hours a day. It's doesn't really amount to all that much but it helps.
I'm determined to avoid being in one of those little scooty chairs for as long as possible. Now that it's getting warm out, I go for my gimpy hobbles in the sun. Lurchin' along like some kind of a friggin' zombie.

Actually the forum is a great spot for screwing off. Beats facebook (which I don't do). Happen to like S&W's - hell, all guns so this seems like an interesting place to set. Besides, I have a computer with me all day and it's pretty cool surfing the forum whilst sitting at counsel table on motion day waiting my turn-not as good as porn, but pretty good nonetheless Plus, based on the info gathered, I've become the defacto "Pro From Dover" with family and friends when it comes to firearm related stuff.

Well, I guess I do need a hug!
Some great responses. Leads me to think, when folks get on the forum, they are in hobby mode. The rest of the time they do have lives.
Great response from Shouldazagged; inspiring post, no sarcasm either!
I've had a lot of hobbies over the years. Comic book collecting, toy soldiers, sport and non sport cards, books, etc. I 've always tried to incorporate them in to well rounded life. But in every one of those hobbies I've run into those that took things a little bit too seriously.
Older now, less hobbies, my most fun is as a big movie buff.
Nothing in my original post was meant to offend. Just wondered how others mesh the gun hobby with the rest of their life.
Peace Out
Dave

I suppose I could spend my leisure time and money sitting in a bar drinking from 4:00 till midnite?

I am trying to figure out if I have been insulted or not and still searching for myself and the meaning of life

This forum is addictive probably due to the members that make it so. Look at the post count on just a few ?s.

Yeah but which Dover are you the Pro from?

I have a full-time job and a part-time job. On weekends, my wife and I are usually traveling to another state to watch my boy play college lacrosse. Other hobbies include working on/building electric guitars, motersickles, and my girlfriend Maya....a little pitbull/lab mix that wants to play all the time.

If the weather were better up here, I'd be spending more time outdoors. We just got back from a 10 day road trip down south.

If it's like mine, you'll have to take it out and hose it off, and probably patch a few scratches.

I've got a life
I've got a wife and teenage boy. We try to spend time together. My other hobby beside shooting/reloading is chess and I play regularly online. I'm only half bad. My wife and I have always been musicians but lately it has been restricted to church choir. Trying to keep that boy in the road is a real job.
