Default Article on ammunition shortage ...

From FoxNews online ... Nothing particularly new and enlightening info-wise, although I think it's sad and problematic when smaller local PDs are relegated to NOT using live ammo due to budgetary constraints and shortages. I also question the article's included stats about household gun ownership. Over the past six months, I'd have thought the % spiked upward due to so many first-time purchasers.

Well Big Sis and DHS could always share some of their ammo with the small and mid sized PDs. It isn't like DHS has a shortage.

I remember a time there was a shortage of Milk at the store. I would see the people moving slow, looking at the empty shelves with a forlorn look...you could almost see them inwardly crying..."no MILK".

Now: I'm the one, forlorn, dejected, looking at the shelf crying: NO AMMO! Whaaaaaa....

just a reminder that when bad happens to you, you are the first responder, in both the best of times and the worst.

If authorities are already running out... maybe this is a good thing. Perhaps they will have learned an easy lesson and be prepared in the future for more than just a training inconvenience.

I'm the eternal pessimist. I could see an "official edict" diverting ammo intended for the civilian market to the "authorities" until the crisis is over (whenever that might be)

Last Friday I sold my last .380 to a pawn shop. (No more ever again) On the way home I stopped at Cabelas. A guy was looking to buy a S&W .380 Bodyguard. Unfortunately there was no .380 ammo in the store which was about to queer the deal. "As I'm now .380less says I, I'll be happy to fill your ammo requirements I comment" "Oh joy! says bodyguard purchaser my dream has come true". So he got his gun, I unloaded my ammo, and I could now afford some new bird feeders. ~The End~

P.S. The only songbirds my feeders have attracted so far are starlings and gray ones with bushy tails.

I would rather have my local police well trained and armed. Those that buy everything they see should give some back. I'm not advocating giving up their stock but a few boxes of range ammo. The police enter situations in which can become dangerous quickly and they should have the training needed which includes live ammo fire.

Perhaps a website could be built for various departments needing ammo. It would have to be factory ammo, stating what caliber, grain weights, etc. Then people could donate boxes to whatever department that needed it.

Remember as reported by By LINDA GREENHOUSE of the NY Times,
“Justices Rule Police Do Not Have a Constitutional Duty to Protect Someone"
By LINDA GREENHOUSE
Published: June 28, 2005
WASHINGTON, June 27 - The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm, even a woman who had obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation. Maybe the hoarders will protect them.

P.S. I have never seen or heard of this happening personally and I do respect the vast majority of LEO. Just saying there are plenty of fed agencies that could support them, I may need my ammunition one day you never know when the zombies will rise.
