This book was lent to me by my FFL. It's a sizable book at 861 pages, small type, 6"x9" pages.

The story is about a man growing up in the gun world as a collector and dealer, and evolves into a terroristic-style revolt against the federal government and the laws that chip away at our rights.

There is some good information in the book showing the author did his research regarding gun laws and licensing. The book is a fictional attempt at revealing how citizen's rights are slowly being eroded, and one possible outcome if the population rises up to defend our freedoms.

Although the ending is hardly feasible, the point our country is at right now and where we go from here as far as registration or limiting purchases etc. is very believable.

I won't ruin the book for anyone, but if you do get a chance to read it remember it was written in 1996, waaaay before our current administration, which makes it a bit prophetic.

I found it interesting if a little long winded, thought provoking to be sure.
And that must be a real friendly FFL, those books are going for well over $200, even on Amazon!

REALLY???

I had no idea!!!

I better take care of it. I'm returning it next week and lending him one of my books "Essential Liberty".

I read this book more than 10 years ago. I skipped most of the first half and really enjoyed it. Just because some clown is listing the book on Amazon or elsewhere for 200$ or so, does not mean that is the true value. You can find this obok easily for about 40$.

John Ross is a member of this forum and he is the genuine article when it comes to knowing his guns. He designed his own model .50 cal S&W and sold them in a limited edition if I'm remembering correctly. I liked the book very much.

I read the book in the late '90's. I remember ordering it from a magazine (National Review? American Spectator?) and I enjoyed it very much. Mr. Ross knew his stuff: history, guns, LE techniques, computer tech (which I'm sure seems prehistoric now). I re-read it a few times back then. I think it's time to give it another.

Interesting idea. So-so execution. The first half was a passable showing of a worthwhile idea. The latter half came off like a bad adolescent revenge fantasy headed by (so far as I can tell) a light facsimile of the author.

Honestly...really not something I'd hand to a new arrival to the shooting world or potential convert. I'm kind of surprised it was as well-recieved in the gun community as it was.

Whatever it's worth, I need to get my autographed copy back from my gun pusher, who "borrowed" it several years ago. The first half is mostly historical, describing the origins of the gun culture. The second half was a good read, I didn't see anything "adolescent" about it. I learned a lot from it, and enjoyed the plot. I wish he'd write another!
