Default New York's Laws are detrimental to enthusiasts

Hello fellow smithophiles:
I had the good fortune to kiss New York goodbye in 1980, take my guns with me in my car trunk(illegal transfer) and drive them to Arkansas where I still reside and I can buy handguns at garage sales. What a night and day difference!!! I bought two slides from a forum member and forgot what i paid for them so I sent him a PM and I was shocked to receive his explanation:
Its sad that he lives in a state that causes him to forsake the guns that he loved. the pm interchange is below . WHAT A SHAME!!!

Hope all is well with you
I bought two 645 slides and barrels from you in march of 2011. I looked at your ad, you were selling them for a friend and I am trying to find what I paid you since now I want to sell them!!!However you edited it when they sold and deleted the prices

I never used them and they dont go on other frames easily without having to relieve
something

Do you have a ballpark idea what i paid?

I am thinking 275 each

regards

Haris

Haris,
I sold over $20,000 worth of stuff for my friend on the forum and other venues, and that was awhile back. I honestly don't remember what I sold, and for what price. I didn't save any info, as once you and everybody else paid for the items the family got the money, and they sent out the parts etc. (they didn't know how to use the internet). My friend is now gone, and I haven't had any contact with his family. I am really sorry I can't help you.
On a side note, I live in New York, and with the new gun control laws, I have stopped collecting guns, and have sold way over half of my collection. I hardly ever look on the forum anymore (your email showed up in my regular mailbox), and have not looked at any gun websites, or gone to any gun shows, or frequented any of the area gun shops I used to visit on a regular basis. Sadly you can stick a fork in me, I'm done. Any enjoyment related to guns is now completely gone.
Good look selling you parts. Again I'm sorry I could not help.
Modelxx...I sold every Model xx I owned, so I shouldn't use that name anymore.

I CHANGED THE BLUE TYPE TO BLACK!!!!!

why is that illegal? a New York or an Arkansas thing?? ... every time I've moved, I just bring them with me... if you're moving from one domicile to another new one in another state, it's a legal transfer across state lines (unless state law prohibits what you own / you're bringing with you, ie- an AK-47 in New Jersey)

blue text hurt my eyes too and is very hard to read against the gray

Sadly there are a lot good people caught (behind enemy lines)
in that backwards state of NY.
Always wanted to visit a couple of sites there, "Statue Of Liberty",
and the new (9/11 memorial) but unless some common sense is
restored and the current political leaders are voted out, i will never
be able to make that trip. I refuse to give (dollar one) to the state
of NY for anything if i can possibly help it.
Sad situation for our gun loving friends there and in a couple of
other states.
PS I agree, can't see that blue type to save my ***.

I used to be really proud I came from New York City. Now with all the stupidity that's coming out of that city, I'm almost ashamed to admit where I'm originally from. The monkeys seem in charge of the zoo and they're flinging poo all over the place.

Probably OK as long as he didn't say "that's not how we did things in New York" at any time in a conversation.

I have no beef with anyone fleeing tyranny to better their lives, and quite frankly, I can't understand why anyone would stay in a place like NY or Kalifornia. What gripes me is when the transplants want to change things into what they were fleeing. Like the "Californication" of Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and a few other western states, or the transformation of south Florida into either NYC or Havana, depending upon where in the region you go.

They are attempting that here in Texas-not yet having a lot of success with their endeavors. I lived in Austin as long as I could stand it--and moved to a better and slower place about 2 years ago and loving it. The idiocy of Travis County has not yet made it here.

A long time ago, I asked what readers would do if Draconian gun laws came to your state. Many said they would not obey them, but I suspected there was some bluster in the answers. Now...as anticipated...some are caving in to the laws rather than fight. There are two ways to successfully repeal bad laws: The legislative process or civil disobedience. The latter is evidenced by the success of the repeal of Prohibition. Government realized its error as citizens simply ignored the law. There are some things that simply should not be mandated by "majority rule." What you drink, drive or own are some of them. It's HOW you act while drinking or driving that should be legislated. The same applies to owning guns. You should be able to paper your walls with firearms if you choose and face the consequences if you misuse any of them. In WA State recently, we saw a felon flee from police, broadside a nurse and kill her, yet not one person has called for the banning of vehicles. Our elected officials are supposed to be intelligent, sage and careful stewards of our Constitution. Instead, they have become like children fighting over a toy. Discrimination is no longer allowed for race, gender or sexual preference, but has simply moved over to political party and societal issues. For all the noise made about "peace and harmony", it's clear that Man (can we still use that word) is the most violent, flawed and destructive animal on Earth. Given that fact, each of us needs to remember at least one thing: We live in a country which is founded on "Government of the People, by the People and for the People". Our elected officials and the People need to remember that and act accordingly.

Usually the transplants are just fleeing from the taxes that their idiotic ideas and ideals caused.

Default New York's laws

Here is what I heard back from him........Sad..............

Haris,
Moving is not an option due to family and other considerations. With my luck, I would move, and the state I moved to would adopt similar gun laws. I have had a lot of enjoyment these 40+ years of collecting. I still have a collection of guns that most collectors would envy. All my high capacity pistols are gone along with my 3 Colt AR-15s. I sold 47 high capacity magazines to a guy in Conn, and now they passed the laws in his state banning them, so he is in the same situation I was in.
Thanks for the kind words.

Actually, it went over very well. I didn't leave NYC for Kentucky because I was fleeing NYC. I left NYC in 1976 because I joined the Air Force and stayed in it for 20 years. My last base of assignment was AF Spec Ops Command in Ft. Walton Beach Florida. When I retired in 96, I went to work in Navarre, Fl until 2005. I left Florida because I was sick and tired of all the hurricanes we had and decided to move to Kentucky where my son in law was going to med school. I visited the area many, many times to see the grand kids so I figured why not go to an area I already knew and liked. I refused to go back to NYC because I didn't like the expense, the pace and the dog eat dog world. For the record, wherever I went, I never ever told anyone "this is how things are done in NYC". Actually, the only time I did say that was when I wanted a corned beef sandwich and didn't want it on white bread with mayo, lettuce and tomato. Rye bread and mustard is it. Like you guys said, why try to make the new place like the one you ran from.
