Default When honor had meaning

I just finished an excellent book: The Blood of Heroes, by James Donovan. It tells the story of the battle of the Alamo and war for Texas independence from Mexico. It was a time when honor was more important than life, and many so believed in their cause of freedom that they knowingly remained at the Alamo despite certain death. There are still men like that, such as the two brave Navy Seals that came to the aid of our Ambassador to Libya in Benghazi last year, holding off the attackers as long as they could, waiting for help that never came. But a real sign of how our country has changed, and not for the better, is how little outrage there has been over the whole Benghazi incident, how few Americans will hold the leaders responsible for the death of the Seals to account. I guess the thought of getting more free stuff and of giving more control to the government makes them feel warm and fuzzy. Such folks probably would call the heroes of the Alamo fools for not running away when they had the chance.

We will be shamed for years by this lack of resolve.....Let us pray that the shame does not defeat our American resolve.....

Honor has lost its meaning for so many at so many levels it is truly disheartening.

One can only hope for a revival and by setting an example day by day.

Were they "Navy SEALS" at the time or were they civilian contractors?

I had family that fought in the Mexican War, my ggg grandfather was for a time a high ranking military official in New Mexico Territory and from some of his letters many of the military leaders of this country at that time did not think of the Mexican War as one of highly noble virtue, more of a land grab and flex of muscle. He was a close personal friend of Kit
Carson and stressed to his sons the importance of education mainly due to the fact that Kit Carson was taken advantage of because he could not read nor write and others got credit for his hard work, mainly high ranking military leaders...the West Point type.
