Default school's out

and my week of hiding is over.

Now it is summer work of instrument repair, long days at the beach, fishing, shooting, self defense classes....shipping of a Marine recruit, keeping cats out of tarantulas...

For our anniversary a couple of weeks ago Mr. wrench got me a certificate for a self defense and shooting course. After I take it I'll post a review.

A man who loves you not only keeps you safe, but makes sure you can do the same for yourself

Missed you all.

Have a good summer. I just completed my third year of retirement after 24 years of teaching. Ain't nothing like it.

Glad you got through the year! You planning on staying at that school or looking around?

I'm planning on staying....but I'm always looking. I can't take much more of preschool flashers and kindergarten floor hoochie dancers. And that's the stuff I can post about.

I was just thinking I hadn't seen you post in a while. Sounds like business as usual at school. My daughter is studying to become a "music educator" so I have told her about some of your posts.

PLEASE tell her that I am in a very unusual situation! Inner city, at risk kids, school is on special program to turn around before shut down, 98% economically disadvantaged, almost same number involved with CPS and social services...

I remember WHY I do it.

For when that isn't enough, there is coffee.

For when even that isn't enough, there is grey goose.

In all seriousness, staying active in performing and community music helps too.

Cap ... I give you a lot of credit. I worked for three years in a SINI school, and a failing district. Not nearly as tough as yours, but it was a challenge. The moral and ethical corruption amongst staff and admin was far worse than any obstacles I faced in teaching 1/3 of my kids who were, on average, 3-4 grades levels below in literacy skills.

But for all the bravo sierra you have to deal with, it's all worth it when you see you've made a positive impact on a student, academically and/or personally.

Go enjoy your summer!

Yes, I taught DD adults who were residents of a State Facility here in Central Obamastan for 21.5 years, but subbing in kindergarten is the worst,, love two or three kindergartener's, 6-10 is a picnic, 25-30 Oh MY Gosh, they're CANNIBALISTIC, I mean we're talking LORD OF FLIES stuff, vedy, vedy, dangerous, you must stay on your feet, to hit the floor would be tantamount to being overrun by army ants..... really. billy
Oh Yeah, welcome back CapN.

Wish you a happy summer that strengthens you for another round come fall, I'm sure you are dearly needed. Hopefully, the Grey Goose won't get hit too hard.

Cap- glad you made it through another year! My wife teaches pre-K so you know she has plenty of patience. I like to think that it is due to the intense training program- our marriage- she has went through! Seriously- she is a very good woman who has trained me well! Good luck with your search. My wife says that she feels it is her calling to work with the little kids. It helps that she has an aide too. She loves it and I enjoy hearing the stories too.
