Military Surplus
After going to Collector's Firearms today my head is swimming with visions of milsurps. Please show off pictures of your old military rifles and handguns for us to admire. I will start with my beloved but common example:

Here is a L42A1 Brit sniper. It was modded from a earlier WW2 sniper rifle. Those guys don't throw anything away.

Old military rifles are hard to resist. I love the old dogs and seem to
always find some excuse to buy another one. I don't want mint
collectable examples. I look for rifles with enough "character" to be
reasonably priced, meaning cheap, but with a good bore for shooting.
I bought a few CMP Garands a few years ago when they still had plenty
and they were cheap, for Garands that is. This one is a late Springfield
made during the Korean war period.

well, OK.
My latest I don;t have a picture of. It is a 1917-18 Colt 1911, narked US property.
1943 Vet bring-back from Iwo Jima. Has blood splatters.
This isn't really a milsurp but is a Colt DS issued to the super-secret Lockheed "Skunk Works".
S & W model 1917. US Issue.
Colt 1917 US Marked.
Still life of my 1911A1 and my M-1 Carbine- from 1943 and 44. Holster from WWI, Bayonet from Korea.
The 1911A1 again. This time with my Korea Vintage M-1 Garand, Marked 1962 7th Fleet Champion
My three 1917's: Colt, S & W and Winchester:
Not milsurp but an actual coach gun=Marked Adams Express Company.
The two 1917s and, in the middle, a British Victory marked "Bavarian Rural Police"
A WWI Montage with my faux sniper. A restored 1903A1

A couple of 1937 Sauer K 98s. Bottom one would be all matching if it wasn't for the rear band.
1899 Oberndorf M 38/96 Swedish Mauser, matching
1912 CG M96 Swedish Mauser
1915 CG M96 Swedish Mauser, my shooter, scary accurate.
1924 CG M96 Swedish Mauser, my favorite, a rare one. everything matches to boot.
1912 FSR M96 Swedish Mauser, prettiest stock in the safe.
1916 DWM Luger left to me by my father.
1987 CZ 82. Best bargain you could get milsurpwise. Hard to find them cheap anymore. A magnificent pistol for $200 a couple of years ago.
Got this Chinese numbers matching SKS when they were $125.

I wondered where our '47 CJ2 went... We had one stolen right out of the front yard at our cabin in the mid 70s.

Garand.
Double heat treat Springfield.

US military pistols:
Springfield M 1911 with belt, etc. I need one more Springfield Magazine to complete the rig; anyone got one?
Colt 1911, with M 1912 holster and belt.
Colt 1917, with pouch for six half moon clips.
S&W 1917, with belt, holtser and pouch. The holster has shrunk so it won't close on a Colt 1917.
Liberator.

A few others:
1879 Reichsrevolver. The stamping on the butt indicates a Post WW I Bavarian civil guard.
MLE Mk II*. Originally issued to Canada. In 1914, Canada, which had the Ross Mk III in service, and the Mk II in reserve, sold 10,000 of them to New Zealand. This is New Zealand marked, and has a WW II Home Guard stamping also. The bayonet is by Wilkinson and is dated 1898. It has the VR (for Victoria Regina) military acceptance mark
LP 08.
High Standard 22, stamped US. I was issued one like it on the ARADCOM pistol team in the 1950s.
Czech VZ 24. The 'J' on the right side indicates Army issue, and the 28 is the date of military acceptance.

OK, I cave
Here are four of mine.
A Winchester P14 with a no-drill scope mount. Shoots 2moa with Prvi ammo all day.
An ERA P14 in the correct Fatboy stock. I have yet to shoot this as I only recently got a proper stock for it. Bore and crown are excellent.
The other 1911, a Schmidt Rubin. People complain you are cheating because it is so long.
What looks like a normal Enfield No.4 Mk1, until you realise that it carries marks for overhauls at two different factories, Maltby and Fazakerley.

I recently traded a S&W M624 3", NIB, for a pristine '03 Springfield. A good friend and owner of LGS had the '03 in his private collection. I had just acquired two pristine 1905 pattern, uncut, bayonets for the '03 and decided I had to have the rifle to match. This guy is a good friend and wanted something he lacked for his collection, so this worked out good for both of us.
I really like this old war horse. After reading up on it I hit the range a couple of weeks ago, took awhile to dial in a sight setting that would put me on the bull at 100 yards but once there it just plunked them in with boring regularity. I found out that 53 year old eyes don't work well with fine iron sights tho'.
The bore on this rifle looks new, as does the metal, I'm sure it went thru an arsenal refinish in it's life and probably a new barrel, but It is a honey.
My stable of Milsurps currently contains the '03, a very nice M1 Garand, a matching number 6.5x55 Swede, an RA marked FAL build and while not MulSurp, an M1A. The Garand will easily outshoot the M1A. I have original bayonets for all as well as some accroutrements for them.
The older I get the more I appreciate old original firearms, the quality is just head and shoulder above modern weapons.
And it's fun to cast and handload for them, gives you a real sense of satisfaction.

Here's a couple of mine.
First, French 1935a with the correct holster built under Nazi occupation. The holster's are harder to find than the guns.
The second one is a Chi Com SKS Type 56 which was captured October of 1968 in Quang Nam Province of Vietnam.
Third is a Russian Sniper Mosin Nagant 91/30
Next is a FN High Power built under Nazi occupation in 1944.
Last, 1917 Winchester

Here's a couple more of mine.
A 1938 Mauser built Luger with matching numbered magazine and it's vet customized holster.
Walther AC 42 P-38 with matching numbered magazine.
Norwegian built 1911
Jap model 38 rifle with Mum intact. The bore on this rifle looked like a sewer pipe when I got it, but it cleaned up nice and shoots great.
And I guess this original Colt Army 44 would be military surplus from 1862.

Moosedog, that's the French Mle 1937 holster and you're right, they're plenty scarce. They were only made from 1937, when the Mle 1935 pistols finally got into production, until sometime during WW II. You can get more information on them from the book "The French 1935 Pistols" by Medlin and Doane (shameless plug). If your 35A pistol is stamped Waffenamt 655, that's the early stamping and quite rare. The later one, WaA251, is more common, although any wsaffenamt maked material is getting pretty pricey now.

Seeing all these pristine collectables makes me almost feel ashamed
of my motley gang of old beat up rifles. Here's a few more of my old
dogs. A #4 Enfield made by Savage for the lend lease program for
the British and so is marked U.S. Property. I have owned it for several
years and it remains full of grease and unfired since receiving a brand
new barrel. A #1 MK III Enfield, but rather than the usual British WW1
production this one was made in 1941 in Australia at Lithgow. A 98K
Mauser at first glance this one was rebarreled to 7.62 Nato and so
marked on the receiver. I believe these were used by Israel in the mid
50s. Very large numbers of Russian Mosin M44 carbines have been
sold in the US in recent years. Most have been reconditioned to some
degree, from just good to like new. Not all of them however, like this
one that is dated 1944 and has little finish on the metal or it's
laminated stock. It does have an excellent bore and even a little
"soldier art".
