Default Need help dating a new to me 685-1

I found this toy cap gun yesterday at a junk shop. The grips were what immediately caught my eye. I looked it over and could not find a name or manufacturer on it anywhere. The only identifying marks are the numbers 685 1 inside the gun where the caps load.
The grips are one piece plastic and the gun itself is steel I believe because of the rust showing.
I thought it was a bargain and cute so I bought it. I could not decide if it looked more like a Colt or a S&W. Can anyone identify what model it was made to look like? Any idea on age? Thanks.
