The 9mm Carbine Thread got me to Thinking

I have always liked the idea of of the Cowboy "3 Gun"
Handgun & Rifle in the same Caliber (.45?)
and a Double Barreled "Coach Gun" Shotgun

So the Question is
What do you consider a good Modern 3 Gun setup?
and do you have one?

An Example M&P9c / Highpoint Carbine
& Mossberg 500 Pump in 12ga.

The last match I tried to shoot I ran an AR with iron sights and a 20-inch
barrel, a Remington 1100 12 gauge with skeet choke (did best with it), and a Browning BHP.

Not as modern as some three gun rigs, but better all around than me
that day.

My son used an M1A, a Mossberg 590 12 gauge, and a Colt Commander 1991A1 .45.

Before somebody at work decided we needed a rifle policy I carried a 16in. Rossi .44 Mag. lever action carbine and a Winchester Model 12 shotgun along with whatever pistol or revolver I was in the mood for that day. Now I have to carry an AR or Mini14. I know the caliber of the rifle and handgun don't match but that is the 3 gun combo that works for me. Still what I throw in the car if I am taking a trip.

I am working on a nice little 16in. Winchester 30-30 right now to supplement the Rossi. Going to go with Ghost Ring/ Scout scope set-up and synthetic stock I think.

At one time in my life I was issued a Remington made 1911A1, a National Match M14 and had available a Remington 870 with metal folding stock and bayonet lug for the M1917 bayonet. I would have a hard time coming up with a combination that would make me feel more confident.

Practically speaking, I'd go with my SIG 228 (9mm), an AK variant in 7.62x39, and a Mossberg 530 12 gauge.

If I wanted to simplify life, I'd acquire a nice lever action brush gun in .44 Mag or .45-70, and a 12 gauge Coach Gun, then match them up with my 629.

My 3 gun set up is what I use for work -
SIG 556 Classic
Mosserg 930SPX
FNP45 Tactical

Cimarron firearms 1866 Winchester Carbine chambered in .38 special.

S&W Model 10 or Model 64

S&W Model 36 or Model 60 3 inch barrel.

3 guns all chambered in .38 special so only round of ammunition would have to be used.

To start with I need to make it a bare minimum of 5 guns. A pocket pistol, a belt handgun, a 22 rifle, a 12 guage shotgun and a centerfire rifle. My dad was a three long gun man and thats the way I was raised.
I have to run and will list my favorites later.

Something for two legged critters: Ruger Security Six, .357 mag
Something for reaching out a bit & for close brush gun: Marlin 36A 30-30
Something quiet to hunt four legged critters running up & down trees: break action .177 pellet gun

.45acp = Glock 21 and a Kriss Vector Carbine
or
9mm = S&W 5906 and Kel Tec Sub 2000
or
.40S&W = S&W 4006 and Sub 2000
or
38/357 = L frame and Marlin Cowboy

Shotgun
Remington 870 or 1100 police

Well I thought about it, thought about and still cant decide without cheating. (Meaning more guns). Obvisly we need to consider first defense and then hunting for survival. Do we already choose 3 of the guns we own or shuffle things around and buy new ones for this project?
Strickly speaking, of what I own, I would keep my old winchester 94 30-30, my dads 12 gauge remington pump model 31, and my s&w 24-3 4" .44 special.
I once owned a winchester model 12, 12 guage with a riot barrel and long magazine along with a long hunting barrel and short magazine. Both numbered to the gun. That would be the best for the shotgun part but alas, its long gone. As it is under that 3 gun rule, I could well arm about at least 15 men anyway.

I have and carry a Marlin camp 45 and a 1911A1 (Same ammo and magazine) with 6-8 round mags and a 1897 12 gauge Take down. Sub a guide gun for more power or a 308 for more distance. Ivan

I usually keep things pretty simple and stick with a wheel gun in .45 Colt, but, okay...just this once, I'll play along.

For my hand gun, I'd probably pack a 1911.

For the shotgun, I'll have to go with a sawed-off Remington 870.

Now...the rifle really got me thinking. I had to struggle a bit with this. I was debating about going with my SKS or even a Ruger 10/22...just for the fact that they're semi-auto. But, when push comes to shove, I have to fall back on my trusty truck gun...a 16-inch, stainless, bead-blasted, Model 92 Rossi in .45 Colt. Granted, it's not a modern semi-automatic, but, golly, I'm so darned use to this little gun that I can work the lever almost as fast. So, I figure, if it works for me, I'm going to stick with it.

Nice grips on the .45, Sambar Stag? And that looks like an older model carbine, nice choice! I had a blue version and stupidly sold it.....oh, well.....

My outdoor combo is a S&W 625 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt and my Henry Big Boy in .45 Colt. I also have a Winchester 96 I carry along sometimes while RV camping...I could supplement that with my Rolling Block replica in .45/70...Self-defense, modern type would possibly Glock 20 with Bushmaster M4 and Remmington 870 with deer barrel...That was a gift from my wife back in 1978 when I was a new patrol officer. We had to supply our own 12ga pump shotgun if we wanted to carry one in the car. That old 870 helped keep me upright a few times and also took deer for the freezer...
