Default July 21 is Ice Cream Day!

In 1984, the very great President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month. He also established National Ice Cream Day as the third Sunday in the month. This means somehow, someway, we must gorge ourselves with ice cream.
So Lets get started, I love Good Humor.
I hope you remember the Good Humor Man.

Or about going to the beach, and seeing this coming at you.

I was just thinking a little bit ago that I need to make some again, maybe next week. Thanks for the encouragement.

Gee, I hope there's no punishable offense for eating ice cream the other 364 days a year. I've been known to indulge for no reason at all!

I used to work with another guard that told me he used to drive a good humor ice cream truck. That cracked me up! He had the worst humor of probley a thousand guards I worked with through the years! He also told me that he sold the most ice cream on rainy days. I dont doubt it, I know I like ice cream in winter, not summer.

I started celebrating around Derby Day and will continue until a little past Easter.

Lately I've been layering Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla and Dean's Orange Sherbet.

Life is short - Eat more ice cream

Good to know.
It's also my daughters 16th birthday, which is appropriate.

A local dairy operation has their own stores and sells fantastic ice cream. My favorites are the Egg Nog and especially the Coffee flavors. At their farm they also have a racquetball court they just finished this year. It's great. I can eat a bunch of cheese curds and ice cream and then work it off. What a great idea.

I do like ice cream, and understand that Geo. Washington did, too.

Where's Cal-Mex? He runs an ice cream store in Mexico. Maybe he'll post some photos.

Default Ice Cream

Yes, you should be eating more Ice Cream. At least, more of my Ice Cream. However, I'm probably pretty far out of reach for most members of the forum (but not all, as more Mexican Members seem to be coming aboard all the time).

Get yourself a nice slice of apple pie, heat it up just enough that it's hot, and put a nice scoop or two of Ice Cream on top. It's not even decadent, what could be more American than a slice of Apple Pie and Ice Cream.

Here's a shot of my store, since you asked. I'm at home today, not in the store, so I don't actually have a lot of photos of the store here on this computer.

Here's an older shot, taken during the last renovation, showing the Ice Cream fridge a little better. There's worse things to do in life than sell Ice Cream, I'm sure. There's sure got to be a lot of things that make one more money than selling Ice Cream, I guarantee you that. However, in an Ice Cream store, in almost all cases, the people you are dealing with everyday are there because they want to be there. So it's probably a happier environment than most other occupations. I was a department store manager in Canada, 25 years ago. Take my word for it, you meet a lot less grouchiness in an Ice Cream store than you do in a Walmart or a Canadian Tire store. It makes for happier times.

Seating area:

Front area of the store...

Coffee Machine...

Small 7.5 ounce Coca-cola, just like in the old days, still sold here in Mexico. In case somebody wants a Coca-cola. We also sell the tinned stuff for making Ice Cream floats, but a lot of people just want to drink a Coke the old-fashioned way: from the old-style glass bottle. Mexico uses the Coca-cola recipe from the 1950's. They never did the "New Coke" thing, they never did the "Coca-cola Classic" thing, they never switched from cane-sugar sweetener to corn syrup or whatever they use today. Mexican Coca-cola in the glass bottles is, in every sense of the word, "The Real Thing".

An older shot of the store-front. It no longer looks like this, Mexican meddling in the by-laws as to how businesses have to be painted and new signage laws (yes, bureaucratic idiocy runs amock down here too) have forced me to "change the face" of my store. But I always liked it this way, with the old Batmobile parked there right in front as well. You've just got to love the Mexican wiring, which is all coming out pretty soon and will be going underground. At least, that's what they say.
