As long as we were discussing bad reality shows,

http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/327277-god-guns-automobiles-tv-show.html

I thought I'd give my opinion of one that I'm enjoying this summer. Mountain Men on the History Channel Sunday nights. Generally I'm not much for reality shows, but this one is kinda interesting. Follows 4-5 ol' boys as they try to scrape by a living. There is a trapper in AK, a Mtn Lion hunter in MT, a guy in the Blue Ridge Mtns, and a couple others. Like most reality shows I always wonder how much it is actually scripted, but I sorta like these characters. Rich the cat hunter is my favorite.

I like all these old homesteads there keeping it alive. But it's hard work doing it.

The only other tv show I like is duck dynasty. UNCLE Si is so funny

I had high hopes for Duck dynasty.

Until i realized it is SUPER SCRIPTED. Like ...badly.

I.......I still find myself watching it though. It is pretty entertaining haha Although willie annoys me, he should go on vacation alone for a season and let jase run the show haha

My youngest son told me to take a look at Duck Dynasty a little while back, and I tried it...Hated it,... but, just a few days ago I had it on for a while, and suddenly, the thing came to be amusing, not too scripted it seems, with only light hearted controversy....I would not set my D V R for it, (even if I knew how), but at least watchable. The Mountain Men series I saw on a friends set over dinner and liked the old man,Tom and his method of making a little money, with his leather work and mountain crafts.... Regards

Mountain Men is one of my favorite shows. Marty is my favorite then Tom. If you like this show you should check out Alaska the Last Frontier on Discovery Channel, it follows a multiple generation family who are homesteaders.

As far as Duck Dynasty goes at least the entertainment is clean and family friendly. The show might be scripted but they really are a tight knit family. The values they depict in the show are worth while and I feel are genuine. GOD FAMILY FRIENDS whats not to like about that.

These shows beat the pants off of the trash that pollutes the tv screens of most homes.

I enjoy Mountain Men. I think these guys put the "real" back into "reality".

I'm diggin' the old guy (Tom?) and his wife and dog in Montana and the new guy in Maine.

This show is worth the time investment.

I've tried to watch it. For rugged mountain men they sure seem to whine a lot...

They seem to go traipsing about unarmed a lot, too...

Rintimtin, you might be interested to know the family members on that Alaska show is the father and grandfather of the fairly well known singer, "Jewel".

Don't mean to be tacky but the Blude Ridge Mountain man is actually located about 6.5 miles from the WallyWorld in Boone, NC. Mr Conway has subscribed to a type of lifestyle that is very interesting and can certainly be difficult but jumping out to WallyWorld at 10 PM for some ice cream ain't hard compared to the Tom fellow up in the Yaak Valley of NW Montana.

Don't know how this came about, but Tom has a rodeo background; how far back I don't know, but shortly after high school here in northern Illinois he went rodeoing. Didn't know him, but had friends that did.

I'm a fan of the show and also "Alaska-The Last Frontier" and "Life Below Zero". Sure, there are some things that raise a question or two,but all are very enjoyable to watch,IMO.
f.t.

p.s. Didn't know that "Jewel" was a Kitchner. Learn sumpin' new every day.

Mt Man TV shows,

A whole lot of drama, a whole bunch of stupid.

Sorry, not for me.

Life below zero is not as bad but still too much drama. I do like the Native lady hunting just about everything with the Mosin though.

Ducks Unlimited, wife just looks at me and laughs when we watch that show. Don't know why.

The one show that really got me is the one where the two guys run out of gas, or truck breaks down, They had to hike out about 10 miles...It just all of a sudden came to me...Catch a ride with the TV crew....Duh....

I have heard that the network wanted to remove the prayer at the end of Duck Dynasty. Phil told them if they lose the prayer, they lose all of them, too. They kept the prayer. Personally, I'd rather watch "nobodys" on TV, than what Hollywood calls "stars".

Earlier this year theresa and I were haveing lunch at chili`s. I had just seen one of those mountain men show`s showing 3 guys crossing the tetons and living off the land etc. Then here came in one of them to meet his girl friend as the show was comeing up on tv again. It was neat as just a few of us were there and we watched his show together. I forgot his last name but his first name was oliver. I asked him how he got on the show. He just said "They found me". I belive he might be a guide around here.

I've watched "Mountain Man", "Life Below Zero", and "Alaska The Last Frontier". They are entertaining but they are about as real as a cowboy movie. Larry

I have been watching the Mountain Man program also. I know that some of the situations have been staged but it is still interesting to me that people actually live in those conditions and are able to eek out a living from the land. The N.C. mountain man seems to be in some sort of commune. He must live fairly close to civilization because he and his friend rode horses into Boone to city hall last year.
Another similar show is Hillbilly Blood on the Destination America channel. It follows two hillbilly Cold Mountain N.C. men who use barter and hillbilly technology to create the things that they need. I'm certain that some of it is scripted also but some of the things they create out of junk are amazing.
