Default Backyard butterflies

Lady Koz has this massive, unruly butterfly bush that I routinely threaten to turn into kindling but truth is that it is a prolific "flowerer" and does what it says. These guys are milling around yesterday in the butterfly bush and daisies out back.

Very nice pictures indeed! It takes talent to take the time to do it. I've noticed a lot more butterflies this year than last- why, I don't know.

I would try to snap a picture of a butter-fly myself, but I'm usually busy trying to avoid getting hit by it when Mrs. Griffith chunks it at me!

All joking aside, those are beautiful!

I've had a significant increase in both bees and butterflies over the last two years. partly, we've expanded our pollinator garden, increased our home-made bee houses and the climate, I suspect.

So far, 17 species of bee and about a dozen butterflies.

im a member of the illnois butterfly monitoring network and have a designated site I visit during the spring to autumn seasons. we monitor the habitat and different species of butterflies.

some of the types I see on a regular basis around our home are:
monarch, cabbage white, red spotted purple, eastern tiger swallow tail, black swallow tail, red admiral, mourning cloak, skippers, painted lady, sulphur, spring azur, question mark, fritillary, buckeye, pearl cresant .

liatris, meadow sage, gallardia, agastache, scabiosa, centranthus ruber, phlox, achillea, buddleia, echinacea, rudbeckia, milkweed and coreopsis have been planted to attract buttflies.

Excellent pics. I have not been out to any good butterfly spots this year so I have seen very little. They are few and far between in town because of the climate and probably because everybody sprays insecticide like crazy to keep the roaches down.

When I was a teen-ager in rural Connecticut, occasionally a Luna would be attracted by the light through the screen door, and we'd get a look at it. They're HUGE and lovely.

What Koz ain't tellin' y'all is that between all his butterflies, and all the birds around there, his REAL job is air traffic controller for his own dadgum yard!

Nice shots, guy.

In other words, Andy, a butter fly-by?
