Sad day for some of us old timers, I learned today that Stan Lynde has crossed the Great Divide. He was the artist who drew the Rick O'Shay cartoons with my hero Hipshot Percussion. He later drew another series called "Latigo" and wrote a couple westerns after he quit cartooning. He was in his 80s and certainly knew the Western life.

This is sad news. I loved His Rick O'Shay and Hipshot Percussion. Then later, his Latigo series. Saw him several times over the years in Red Lodge and Billings. He would always take time to visit with you.

I haven't seen "Rick O'Shay" since I lived in Chicago in the '60s or '70s. That of course brings back vague memories of "Flash Gordon" and "Terry and the Pirates".

I've been a fan of Stan's since the late 50's and Hipshot was my hero also. I have all of the Rick O'Shay and Latigo books and several of Stan's artworks framed. I was fortunate to be able to speak with him a few times. His moral values spoke volumes through his comic strips. R.I.P. Mr. Lynde.

I guess I have spent most of my life under a rock. I have never heard of any of these people, or cartoon characters or whatever they are.

And, I'm a fan of westerns. Maybe just not a fan of cartoons.

Remember Hipshot searching for a "buzzard gun"?

Wow, what a loss.

I still remember the colored "funny papers" on Sunday. Many a time there was a beautiful scenic view & a short but powerful message as Rick O'Shay or Hipshot spoke.

Rick O'Shay was by far my favorite comic strip growing up! What kid wouldn't see Hip Shot as a hero??? As a matter of fact, I tried using "Hip Shot" as my CB handle when I drove semi in the mid-70s, but it never did come across the air-waves very well. Sorry to hear of Stan Lyndes passing. I'm sure Hip Shot would have had something profound to say as Stan left this world to meet "The Boss".
