What the heck is this?
Found it at a junk store. On one side it says Victorinox, Switzerland and no other markings. It has a cutting edge so its not pliers which was my first thought. My guess is a vet's castration shears.

Might be sheep shears... that guard might be to keep the blades from cutting too close to the skin.

Maybe you could try them on yourself to verify that? I know I would, I hate not knowing for sure.

Sheep shears are usually sprung to be open, so instead of having to work handles, you just squeeze them to cut and they jump open ready for the next cut.

They're Victorinox's Flower Gathering Shears. They cost about thirty-five bucks new.

Although the mystery has been solved, those pictured do indeed appear to be self-opening shears. Albeit, a different design than one normally sees.

Now that you mention it, I remember people using these, at least on TV. Any grapes I ever harvested were picked one at a time.

they look well made though
If you don't mind a little derail. My Father was born at home & never circumsized until in his 50's. the way he was limping they may have used something like that or a blow torch. we were very sympathetic & got him a playboy mag.
