Default USPS damaging my mail?

Last week, my copy of Handguns arrived, half torn to shreds, inside a clear bag from the USPS apologizing about my damaged magazine. First time ie ever happened. Then yesterday, my copy of Shooting Times arrived the same way, but in the bag was only the cover. My copy of American Rifleman is due soon. If it's damaged in any way, I'm going to visit my local postmaster.

Sounds like they have a sorting machine problem.

Over the last 40 years I've had three or four pieces of mail arrive as you describe. I doubt it's a plot against gun publications.

Default They try to run everything

They try to run everything through the machine. To them hand sorting is a waste of time and money.

I get several gun rags in the mail and the only one that gets shredded is Guns and Ammo. It seems to happen about two or three times a year. Nothing else gets shredded though.

Good luck finding your local postmaster.

And the USPS wonders why they are losing the business to FedEx and UPS and just about anyone who can deliver anything.

I've had the same experience with my HPP (High Performance Pontiac) magazine on several occassions. Machine sorters shaking loose and getting out of tolerance? Even Blue Press sometimes, and that one has the edges taped. Bugle usually gets home fine (heavier quality paper goes through sorter better?) and Fair Chase is in a plastic wrapper.

My wife used to work at a large state agency that literally got thousands of pieces of mail a day. Remains of stuff in plastic bags were common (at least a few each week.) Normally that process took at least 3-4 weeks before they got the REMAINS of what was entrusted into the gentle hands of USPS.

Ah yes another USPS bashing A Magazine got tore up oh my.

My delivered Newspaper got wet as it wasn't double bagged and he threw it in a low spot.

I chat with my local "Lady almost every day, she works like a dog and is the nicest person, just lost her husband, She has great stories and insight of the whole Postal Service.

They are a Pseudo Federal Agency. They actually have some good ideas and plans but are not allowed to implement them. They are controlled but the "wise ones"

Take any business that is controlled by the Federal Govt and see how you work it out. I saw it on the State Level.

Go behind the scenes and witness how many pieces of mail and packages they actually move on a daily basis, It's mind boggling!

There is bound to be a few mix ups. lost or shredded.
Get a job there and fix it.

USPS sucks, Fed Ex sucks, UPS sucks, get in your car and hand deliver it yourself.

Come up with a solution, I have never had a lost package or envelope.

Years back I had my State Income Tax return lost for about a year and a half. I don't even want to begin to tell you the trouble that caused.

The fault lies within our stars and not within ourselves. Me thinks a nerve's been struck.
There is absolutely no comparison between the USPS of the 1960s when it was functional and provided stellar service by uniformed professionals and today by people who I can't tell if they are here to cut the lawn or throw the mail on the floor of my porch.

As long as it is not your S&W Historical Letter from Roy, you'll be OK.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the USPS. Yeah, once in a while an envelope gets torn for some reason. I've shipped and received a lot of items, some via this forum, and never had a problem. My mailman, excuse me letter carrier, does a good job and when we have a reason to speak, is pleasant.

I've always thought that comparisons between the USPS and common carriers were apples vs oranges.

The USPS delivers some packages, but a lot more in the way of letters, magazines, fliers, post cards, and assorted ****. FedEx and UPS deliver packages and overnight letters. Imagine what it would cost if FedEx was going to deliver your American Rifleman every month.

For the record, I'm not a USPS employee, don't know any, never wanted to be one, and frankly think it's one of the more boring ways possible to make a living.

Just call the magazine company, tell them it was damaged and they will send a new magazine in an envelope or bag.

No, there is no comparison. The increase in mail volume and customers in the last 52 years, the meddling of Congress in the USPS, the invention of the personal computer and Al Gore inventing the Internet makes it impossible to compare the 1960's and present day mail delivery.

I have been a city mail carrier in metro Atlanta for nearly twenty-seven years. I am there to deliver mail, not mow anybodies lawn. I may have to wade through the lawn to get to the front door with a parcel or piece of accountable mail. If your kid's bike or one of your vehicles is blocking the box then you are slowing me down. If your dog is loose your stuff will be delivered when it is safe to do so. My health is more important than your bills or new Playboy. Going on vacation, or out of town for a few days and want your mail held? Then fill out the proper form and submit it on time, I am no mind reader. Moving? Fill out the proper form and submit it, do not leave your new address written on a box top in the mailbox for me to find. Your mail isn't being picked up out of the box? Use the flag, that is it's purpose.

I am there to provide service to everyone. My first customer is no more important than my last customer, I need to be at each stop consistently on a daily basis. This requires the help of each and every customer. Do your part, nobody has to tell me to do mine.
