Nidal Hasan is eligible for the death penalty after being found guilty (as if there were any doubt) on all thirteen counts of murder. Unanimous verdict.

Sentencing phase starts Monday.

I have heard that the sorry piece of #### wants to be exacuted I think it is only the right thing to follow his wishes...All those virgens are waiting for his arrival, I think we should hasten his departure, I would hate to dissapoint all those vaield beauties....

He was still receiving his military pay. I guess it will stop now. That is a disgrace. The other soldiers he shot and wounded have gotten nothing. Check it out.

Maybe they can turn him over to a country that allows torture.

What can I say? Any other verdict would be a miscarriage of justice. Whether he gets a death sentence or life, he won't have many happy days to look forward to. Even if it is a life sentence, he will not be in the general population (for his own protection).

In a way, I am hoping for a life sentence, less chance of it being overturned.

I am more upset about the Bradley Manning affair.

There was no question of his guilt. The only question has been what to do with him. Personally I do not care if he is executed or lives in the Super Max or Leavenworth for the rest of his normal life.

He can be reduced to the rank of private and have all pay and allowances suspended as well as confinement for the remainder of his natural life. Remember Military prision is not the same as the country clubs civilian prisions are...

There wasn't going to be much chance for anything but guilty. He admitted doing it in his opening remarks. It has been said he wishes to get the death penalty because it will make him a martyr for Muslim in his opinion.

As much as I'd like to have them grant his wish for death, I now am wondering if maybe life in a federal prison with hard core convicts wouldn't be more punishment for him. {I know, he's military and as such will go to military prison, but I can dream can't I?}

There's many things about this story that make me angry, but in the end the families will get their opportunity to face him at sentencing and say their piece. Then he will face whatever "justice" is handed out. I just keep telling myself he will suffer wherever he is going after that, I don't believe he will be rewarded for his actions.

As others have said, he has asked for and wants the death penalty so he will be a martyr. I don't know if a military court can confine him to the Supermax but if they can, throw him in a cell there for life. Give him a Koran and a prayer mat but do not give him what he wants.

The more I think about it, the more I agree. Death is too easy, and too satisfying for him and people who support what he did as right and proper.

I don't think they can toss him in the Supermax, but they can see that the remainder of his life is not a walk in the park.

I agree with bgrafsr, keep him alive and feed him BLT's.

In their mind he is already a "hero." Just ice him and get it over with. The taxpayers' money shouldn't be wasted on feeding and housing him, much less attending to his medical needs. He isn't worth a thin dime.

Sure---He should be shot at high noon on a Saturday. It should be on the news live, filmed and people should be made to see it happen.
He did as he wished and if you let it slide, others are going to do it also.

I sure hope the judge imparts upon him how much of a true traitor to his nation he is. If there is one thing that may shake this guys' thought process, that might be it.

I am not saying that would make me happy; I am saying that would be about a just sentence. (To make me happy, he would have shot himself thirteen times, and left everyone else alone that day.)

He will not survive a week in GP. In this case, I wouldn't execute him, either. I suggest a cell down in some sub basement of Leavenworth where he will never see sunlight again. I would give him nothing except a visit from a minister once a month.

In these days of political correctness, where even this mass murder was called "workplace violence" to avoid any possible offense to Muslims, you can bet that regardless of the sentence imposed he will be given treatment that no Muslim nation would ever afford a non-Muslim American. He will have a Koran, a prayer rug, a diet that meets his religious requirements, visits by a Iman and who knows what else. But after his fate is decided, I will be watching what is done within our military services to those who share responsibility for this tragedy.

I am a retired Army LTC, who served 24 years in the Army's medical service. During periods of severe physician shortages I saw the Army tolerate some who were incompetent at best. You can bet that senior military leaders did not use such doctors to care for themselves or their family, but it was good enough for the common troops. But at least in my time I can't recall being terrified of criticizing a bad officer merely because of his religion. In my day it only applied to race and gender, where marginal minority and female officers were not only tolerated but promoted rapidly as the Army tried to prove it was no longer bigoted against African Americans or women. Now it seems the over sensitivity is to Muslims, who cannot be held to the same standards as non-Muslims out of a sense of political correctness.

Do I really expect that this case will lead to a real evaluation of where the system failed in allowing this man to continue to serve as a Major in the Medical Corps despite overwhelming evidence that he should have been kicked out of the service? I don't think there is a chance in hell that this will happen. Had he been kicked out earlier he never would have had the opportunity to commit this murder with the ease with which he did.

And while we are on this subject, it is sadly ironic that military restrictions on the personal carrying of a gun is far more rigidly prohibited than in the civilian arena. Maybe if concealed carry had been permitted at Ft. Hood as it is in the non-military part of Texas, the situation would not have continued as long as it did while awaiting CIVILIAN law enforcement to stop Hassan.

He shouldn't be executed. He should be sent to prison for life and his cell mate should be Bradley/Chelsea Manning. That would be most interesting.

Hope for fast justice and pray and support those that were murdered and severely wounded in his attack. We all need to work for and demand that they,the victims, should be afforded all benefits of being wounded in combat /terrorist attack and not be considered the victims of "workplace" injury.

The people who so classified it couldn't care less what you think. They have FAR more respect for Nidal Hasan than they EVER will for you or me.

When I saw the headline this morning I just thought that this is the scumbag that they were referring to.

He's earned a death sentence. Even if he is sentenced to death I doubt he'd ever be executed. Military death penalty was reinstated back in 1984. Ain't nobody been executed.

The entire time he's in custody, he should get the bare minimum of what's required to keep him alive, and NOTHING more.

His existence should exist entirely of staring at four windowless walls until he's either executed or dies of natural causes.

On the contrary, I can virtually guarantee that he'll receive better treatment than a lot of wounded veterans at Walter Reed, and ABSOLUTELY better treatment than those in V.A. hospitals.

He will live out what ever life is left being treated like a special person..We have become so PC that we have lost our real sense of value. He is nothing more than a killer of un-armed men and women...It was his religious duty....bull!! he was a drop out from the start nobody had the guts to stop his career when all the signs of a sicky were present..Transfer to somebody else to solve the problem...How many of our finest had to die to straigten his sorry butt out....Hard decesions have to be made, politic correct or not....Who tells the parents, wifes,children that somebody didn't have the guts to stop this long before this tragidy. Workplace violence my butt.......At least the government owes the families their do for this whole affair.....Pay UP !!!! Those victims gave their life for this country as much as if they were in the sand box....Even worse they had no tools to protect themselves.

I agree with the above and will only add that--why will they not give that $260,000+++ hasan received--to the families of his victims? My math skills are abysmal but--wouldnt they each family--not family member per se) get around $14,000. I know--not much but--would still help out with some of their bills and such. However, I know that most likely will not happen with the current Govt in charge.

I don't care what you say about FDR (and there's a lot about him to criticize, if not outright condemn), but he never expressed more sympathy for the Germans and Japanese than for our own troops who were fighting and dying, and he never portrayed the enemy as anything BUT the enemy.

I know that he's subject to the forfeiture of all pay and allowances, but can that be retroactive to the date of the crime(s)?

He ought to be fined AT LEAST what he's made from that day forward, and that money given to the victims and their families.

Instead of course, mad dog killers at Guantanamo will be given copies of "Fifty Shades of Gray"...

That unfortunately will never happen and ithas nothing to do withthe current government it is the way teh law is and has been for a very long time. As I said, unfortunately.

Hi Mort-I wish I could answer your question but Ive never served in the Military so I dont know. I agree, he should be fined and ill even add-that all his assets should be taken-sold off and distributed to the families of the victims.

Something that does not make any since to me is that I heard that none of the murdered and wounded-will even get a Purple Heart?? Though I hear and read some about this? its hard to comprehend the powers that be--will not take care of our people like they should.

As I recall, Queen Elizabeth the First allowed the sailors who defeated the Spanish Armada to suffer from hunger and disease out of fear of their power and popularity with the public.

The people who made the "workplace violence" call can't hold a candle to one of her hounds...

The Purple Heart is awarded for wounds, injuries, or death sustained as a direct result of enemy action.
Hasan is a US citizen.
He was a US soldier.
His actions were not committed by an enemy of the US.

Being murdered by another US citizen and soldier whose religion is Islam does not fall within the criteria any more than if they had been murdered by another soldier who killed them for whatever reason.
