Michigan man shoots himself at a suburban Chicago pistol range
It's hard to believe the CBS story unless he was using a Governor or a Judge with .410 shot shells. Also, I've shot at this range many times and they do run a pretty tight ship. None the less, it's a very sad situation and may God rest his soul.

Do they rent full auto there? Only other scenario I can think of with multiple wounds in a ND situation unless the shooter is beyond belief. Very sad, horrible situation.

Full auto weapons are illegal in Illinois. I'm guessing that the media is way off base on the "multiple" gunshots claim. If he did accidentally shoot himself, I'm still of the opinion that it was with a Governor or a Judge.

Of course they are, what was I thinking? lol. Seriously, didn't know they were illegal even for rental from Class III dealers, should have figured.
I imagine you're completely correct, either they misreported the details (common in modern media) or it was a single shot from a shotgun round.
Unsettling regardless. No matter how much a range may try to insure safety in the end you're trusting those around you to be safe. When you read about someone not being safe it gives you pause.
I reread the article and it doesn't say either if it was self inflicted or another person was the shooter. if it was someone else it makes more sense.

There have been several incidents where people rented guns at a range and used them to commit suicide. In Asheville a man walked into a pawn shop asked to see a revolver, loaded it, and killed himself. He brought the bullet(s) with him.

In Maryland where I lived before retiring, a robber came into a local LGS and looked at many old military type rifles on an open rack. Left, bought the right ammo, returned load one and shot the store attendant and them robbed the place. You have to be ever vigilant.

40 years ago when I lived in Illinois, Midwest was one of the shops I frequented. They survived the anti gun storm unlike about 8-10 shops I can think of in a 40 mile radius from them. I used to stop there still when I was still working in the area as little as 3 years ago. Well run, tight ship, especially considering it's close proximity to Chicago. My thought is it was a suicide.

December 2009, at The Firing Line range, Westland, MI. guy goes in rents a pistol. Uses his range time, then puts the last one in his head. My former FFL (who is also a CCW instructor) was in the lane next to him with a student.

Had a girl do that in a range here. Even took instruction from one of the guys in the store. After she had run a few mags and was shooting well he left her to it. She gave absolutely no clue, but it was plainly deliberate when they viewed the video.

With all the poisons out there why don't people just use that to kill themselves at least the family can have a open casket if that's what they prefer. Like I've said before I've had 5 suicides and 2 murders in my family-friend circle and only one had a open casket because he used a .22 didn't kill himself outright but he did die from it and only had gauze wrapped around his head at the exhibition.
I know most poison are not as fast but end results are the same.
