Never thought I'd see the day-$30 bricks were the deal of the show
I didn't get in on the ivory action at the Lakeland Fl. Gun show yesterday as we were only there for the morning but here was the deal of the day-$30 bricks of Remington Thunderbolt .22 Long Rifles that Ordnanceguy ferreted out. The 2 Remington white bricks are US military standard velocity .22 LR and were a little more per brick. Finally the 3 boxes of CCI .22 Short Mini Mags were marked $10 each-I offered $25 for all 3, she thought it over and allowed how she'd take $8 each for all 3...
Regards,
turnerriver
Not a tempting S&W in the whole show for me but I did enjoy talking with Jim & Jackie King.

Who among us, in their wildest dreams, would have thought we would be paying these prices for .22. I still have bricks marked $11.55. Thank goodness I used to pick em up right regular when on sale.
I like the $8 a piece rather than all 3 for $25, John.

Once upon a time I made maybe $15K/yr. I was fresh out of seminary in my first church. A brick of plain Jane .22 LR was maybe $8.99/ea. That was in about 1982. Now... prices have increased. Gas is what... $3.70/gal. regular. Milk is $3.79/gal. I remember those days when gas was $1.10/gal. regular and milk was not quite $2/gal. Now... a brick of .22 LR ammo runs (when you can find it) $25-30/ea. I don't like it. I don't like $4/gal. gas. I don't like jacked up prices on chicken, beef, etc. Much of it boils down to the sad fact that the U.S. dollar has fallen in value. It simply takes more dollars to buy what once cost less, because the dollar was at that time worth more relative to the cost of goods/services and... relative to the demand for goods and services overseas.
We can't live in the world that was. We have to live in the world that is. The other day at the LGS they offered to sell a 555 rd. box of Remington Golden Bullet .22 LR ammo... for $69.99/tax. I passed. I'd gladly pay $25-30 per brick for .22 LR ammo... if it could just be found. In my area I've not been able to find an .22 LR ammo since about February.

I understand about inflation and that the price of everything generally increases as our average wage increases, however, $30 per brick equates to 50% inflation in one year. That is not normal inflation. Last year a brick of Thunderbolts was $20. What we are seeing is the result of pressure on supply due to unusually high gun sales in January and February taken advantage of by opportunists and hoarders. The opportunists and hoarders have affected those new to the sport the most by sucking up the supply. It's sad when dads can't find or afford .22lr to teach their kids to shoot.

John don't know how we missed you. I had a 550 brick of Federals I brought along as sales bait to go with a Ruger MK-I Target I was selling if I need the extra bait, turned out it sold without them and I got tired of lugging them around so I let Rod Dilling the engraver in the little room have them for $30. You coulda had one more brick. Where were you hiding? Of course Sal was rushing me around so he could get back for a shot at those toofies.
Good part of the day was I signed up another SWCA member.

The prices you paid are still about $80 or more cheaper than what you would have paid here. Good deal

It was just 5 or 6 years ago I bought several bricks at $14.99 each for bricks of 550 rounds when the stocks were plentiful. Fortunately I bought several of them at that price, so I still have a couple of bricks left. Unfortunately, I did not buy nearly enough!

At the Rochester, NY show yesterday, folks were asking from $45 (one guy only) to $125 per brick. Most were around $50-75.
None I saw were cheaper.

$35/bulk pack is a deal on Calguns. Guys are asking $50. Not sure what the final price is but they are selling. Not to me, though.
Apparently the flippers are still cleaning out the local Walmart when the stuff comes in. Too far for me to drive on the off chance of MAYBE getting some.

Well, when I can once again buy a 5000 round case for a bit over $200, I'll be back in the market.
Sounds like prices of .22LR might finally be coming down???

This is an old thread (started in 2013) but I saw the standard velocity Remington .22 Long Rifles and had to make a comment.
Back in the early 1970s, I was shooting on my Navy/Marine ROTC unit's rifle team. We used standard velocity Remington ammo. That was the most inconsistent ammo I have ever shot. Some would go bang, some would go POW, some wouldn't go off at all. Real hard to get good groups thataway (That was my excuse )
Of course, that's what you get when you buy from the lowest bidder.

Love it when 3 year old threads are revived. Last show I attended had bricks of CCI standard velocity for $40. The show I attended last fall they were $50 and I bought 2. At least they are headed in the right direction. I too have bricks from my earlier days that I paid $8.95 for. I also have a 25 pound bag of #8 lead shot that I paid $9.00 for. Ah the good old days.
