Need some gray foam that comes in pistol cases
I'm looking for the gray foam that comes in pistol cases. Anyone know where I can buy some? I have a couple of small projects and I was wondering where I can get some without buying a huge lot of it. Also do any of you know what type of foam it is? I checked my local crafts stores and they do not have any of this stuff.
Thanks, James

There are several retail outlets that sell nothing but foam.
Do a Google search for foam outlets or foam stores in your area.

Can you post a pic? Gray Foam is a little ambiguous considering there are hundreds of types of foam. Closed cell, open cell are the two main different types, but then they come in different densities.
This is the first link that came up with a Google search: Chair Cushion, Boat Cushions, Replacement Cushions, Patio Cushion
I'll bet they can hook you up with some remnants.

Open any of your plastic pistol cases, that is the foam I'm referring to.

Just to close the loop that I opened...
I asked because I have pistol cases with both types of foam. So, I just wanted to be sure we were talking about the same stuff.
Also, any upholstery shop will have bunches of foam around.

The few that I have around here only have the white stuff. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if my local foam shop has what I want. Like I said, I never knew about foam shops so that is why I never found anything on Google. Thanks, James

Try Foam City...if they don't have what you are looking for, give Foam World a call...and if they don't have it try Foam Home or Foaming at the Mouth. But the latter two specialize in more exotic foam.

The previous posters are correct. I located a local foam shop and took one of my rifle case cushions in for a measurement. In fact, I ordered a denser solid grey piece and it really made the rifle a tighter fit. Better than the stock/factory foam in my opinion.

If you do not mind me asking, what did they charge you? I'm not looking to spend much.

srv1,
I don't remember, but it won't break the bank. I'm guessing $20-25. The density and product quality was far better than the flimsy factory foam. It just depends on how much do you want to protect your rifle. It's only money, it's not worth saving.

Well I went to the place near me and I told them what I was doing. The owner cut a bunch of pieces for me and did not charge me! He was a CCW himself I will post up some pictures of my results.
