I have a stainless Wave that is my EDC knife/tool. Goes everywhere with me (either in my pocket or my briefcase). A couple of the features I like are the fact that you can deploy the blade one handed (no need to open the tool up) and you can buy an aftermarket pocket clip that allows easy pocket carry.

Wave - Leatherman Multi-Tools

My second son is a "Wave" user/carrier, however I use a Gerber as the pliers are one hand deployable, and when not dressed up I usually have a folding knife that is single hand openable also. My grandfather lost his right hand in an industrial accident just before WWII, and the only knife type tool he could use was a shaving razor. Even this may have been illegal but the police seemed to overlook it due to the circumstances. So in my family, you can see why the one handed idea is so important. If you can get your leatherman to loosen up, so it will whip open like a butterfly knife, I think that would be the best of both worlds (I tried for a couple of years on a basic model of Leatherman and it never loosened up) Also you might want to look a the SOG brand of pocket pliers. I really haven't seen anything else worth owning. Above all else, avoid the China made ones! Ivan
P.S. Think about the projects you a likely to do with one and find the one that will do it best. I have one by Beretta, for work on their shotguns (and pistols) in the field, it is centered around a folding hammer, and has all 4 gauges of choke wrenches built in. So this what I carry when shooting sporting clays or hunting.

I love the Skeletool CX for lightweight day to day carry.

They make a bunch of different ones, my favorite I carry every night at work is the Blast. When I'm out shooting I carry the Wingman. Leatherman makes a quality product.

I've carried several Leatherman tool over 25 years and by far my favorite is the Wave..... second would be the lighter and cooler Skeletool, another Leatherman where the primary blade can be deployed single handed without opening the main chassis.

The old Schrade Tough Tool was a handful but versatile and built like the proverbial tank. I have one in a bugout bag in my car. But I also liked the Victorinox SwissTool, the more compact version (can't remember the model name, I gave mine to a grandson). Good selection of tools, everything locked and easily unlocked, and it was light and handy.

I carry one in my truck and one on my bike. It'll do small jobs without breaking out my real toolkits. I just have Craftsman marked original Leathermans.

I also like the wave. I made a pair of 6" by 4" matching bookcases for a client. He liked them so much he gave me the Leatherman Wave as a bonus. I plan to replace to nylon case with a custom leather case when it fails.

I have seen a few of the new models and they are pretty neat. I have the original that came in the dark brown pouch with the Leatherman name on an angle across the front. I still use it and it has always served me well. So far I've not needed to upgrade.

I keep a Crunch in my car. It has locking pliers like Vise-Grips. It's come in handy over the years, especially helping friends move.

I also got a tip from a firefighter. He never goes into a burning house through the garage without locking small Vise-Grips to the garage door track. It keeps the electric door from closing. I figure that I could do the same for myself or another with the Crunch in an emergency.

I carry a Fuse all the time, and I do mean ALL the time, in my purse if it's not on my belt. I needed wire cutters. Good ones are not on all models. I didn't need pliers as much.

The owner of leatherman is anti gun, or at least pro the party that doesn't strongly support the second amendment.

google "leatherman owner anti gun"

and decide for yourself.

I recommend tools by Victornox, maker of the various Swiss Army knives and multi tools.
All the tools lock in place, a feature my 1980s leatherman does not have.

A leatherman wave has been on my hip every day for about a decade now. I use it almost daily. I magnetized all the screwdriver blades as well as the plyers. This helps with the little screws and pieces.
