Somebody in a hurry? Is nowhere safe?

Horse shot, killed while pulling buggy
Posted: Nov 25, 2013 1:29 PM EST Updated: Nov 26, 2013 5:01 AM EST

By Katie Mae Bassler

RONKS, Pa. (WHTM) -
Police say a horse pulling an Amish buggy in Ronks, Lancaster County was shot by someone in a passing vehicle. It later died.

According to officials, an Amish buggy carrying five passengers was traveling north in the 100 block of North Ronks Road at around 9 p.m.

An unidentified car passed the buggy, and authorities said a loud noise described as sounding like a firecracker. The car did not stop.

When the buggy arrived home at a farm approximately one mile away, it was discovered that the horse was bleeding from the mouth.

A veterinarian was called, but the horse died before the vet was able to arrive.

A bullet hole was discovered on the left-hand side of the horse's chest area. None of the buggy passengers were injured.

Anyone with information may contact East Lampeter Township Police at 717-291-4676.

I read this earlier. This is about as senseless and cruel as anything I can imagine.

Between cowardly acts like this and the knockout game, I pray for our society.

This is just disgustingly mean spirited behavior and I hope these brigands get what they deserve.

My concern is they will not get what they deserve.

Way too many in our society ready to make excuses for barbaric behavior and not want to be bothered with the actions of these BARBARIANS!

Unless our system and society decides this level of behavior will not be tolerated, we are doomed to gang mentality and barbarians running amok.

I fear for my grandchildren.

Someone who'd kill a mans horse deserves to be hung. Period.

I don't dare express the anger I feel or the G'rilla would drop kick me outta here.
The kindest way of killin' them folks I can think of is draggin' them to death.

Hopefully the culprits will brag about it(they usually do), get caught, and have to pay. Money won't bring the horse back, but the victims can at least have $ to buy another one.

I hope they track down those responsible. We've had similar senseless incidents that are becoming far too frequent: dirtbags killing peoples' dogs for kicks, or shooting elk, antelope, deer, or other wildlife, and leaving them to die miserable deaths.

Not long ago, a couple of idiots shot two bull elk in Wind Cave National Park and left them lay, but were stupid enough to get drunk at a bar and brag about it. Somebody turned them in for a reward that was offered. Then there was the case of the out of state poachers on safari who killed a bull buffalo in Badlands National Park, but were caught in a local motel because blood was leaking from their enclosed trailer and pooling in the parking lot. Busted! Unfortunately, a lot of cases never get solved.

First ya sit 'em on a horse with one end of a rope around their neck and the other tied to a branch. Then give the horse a little "pat" on the rump...

Read about this last night. Happened pretty close to home. First we get the knockout game, now this. Can't help wonder what's next?

I have visited that area of PA many times over the years. Total disgust fills my being reading of this horrible act committed by a brainless, soulless cretin against a noble defenseless horse. I hate what society has become. May the teeth of Karma come back to bite the perpetrator of this egregious, cruel crime!

The additional tragedy is, to anti-crowd, we are guilty by association to such gun toting cretins.

I'm a firm believer in "what goes around comes around".
This jackwagon will eventually get whats coming to him.
Sad though that there are people like that out there.
Make ya' wonder what the world has come to.

Why cast stones at Vette owners? Most of those you see on the roads are driven by old coots puttering along, enjoying being able to afford something they dreamed of owning since they were kids. Yeah, that's right...the wife and I have one. I'm betting you'll find the shooting was done by some wack jobs who are anything but Vette owners. Prolly BMW or Mercedes drivers

It does seem appropriate because of the victim though. Plus, if done the correct way can take a long time and be very painful.

Umm, I live in Amish country, and I do not fit into category one, two, or three. "Hourse" is spelled "horse", and, I drive a Vette.

When I first read the book "No Country for Old Men" I didn't understand the title. Then I realized it was because the older officers just didn't understand the actions of criminals today. When I read the paper and see things like this, I cry a little inside and realize this is no place for me anymore. I don't understand the cruel actions of others. I don't understand the joy or satisfaction they get from the things they do. I'm only 56 but I feel a whole lot older. This is a lost world for sure.

I agree Doug. I'm close to 10 year your senior. Fondly remember growing up in the 50's and early 60's. No country for Old men is right on. The slow disintegration of our society, in many ways, parallels the fall of the Roman empire. Loose morals, debauchery, greed, cruelty, un-ending wars. All empires and civilizations crumble. We're in the midst of it now.

The thing with old men is that they are too slow and arthritic to fight, so they'll just kill you.
