Frank Hamer's Favorite Sixgun, "Old Lucky".
This is the best photo I've seen of Hamer's famous Colt .45 "Old Lucky" that was said to be his favorite handgun. There's a plated engraved .45 with carved pearls that he owned that also get's "favorite" status sometimes. But the extreme wear on this gun looks like this one was. I always thought the gun was blued. Scroll down in the link and see the second close up picture with the gun's factory letter. There's lots of LEOs and Texans here who know more about Hamer and his guns than I do.

I used to have his book where he said he also owned a S&W triplelock and how I belive his wife had it when they were in a shootout when they were attacked rideing through a town in texas. Also he mentioned his brother harrison was with them at the time.

Didn't Ranger Frank Hamer purchase a Colt M1911 .38 Super automatic pistol when he was assigned to stop Bonnie and Clyde criminal crime spree ?

I read a Jim Wilson article about that and Hamer's son said his dad did in fact buy a .38 Super for that one endeavor because he wanted the higher velocity to shoot into a Ford if need be.

You should try and find the auction catalog where Charlie Shrieners' collection was sold. There are several super pictures of Old Lucky . I believe,if memory serves, that it sold in excess of $275K and was returned to a Texas collection.
