If you owned a Kimber Pro Carry (not II) and a Colt Series 70 from about 1976, both in real good condition, both reliable shooters, and decided to keep only one of them, which would you keep?

+1 on Colt.
The Kimber is sweet, but it's value is - while the Colt's value is +
….and, It's a Colt!

It's seems like I had a Pro Carry of that vintage. Doesn't it have an alloy frame? I don't particularly like alloy frame 1911 style guns. So I'd keep the Colt. The only Kimber I'd like to have back was a blue all steel 4" compact. I don't think they make that configuration any more.

Is it the Pro Carry HD? If so there were only about 3000 made.

I'd keep the Colt, but I have nothing against Kimbers - and I don't subscribe to the Colts-walk-on-water 1911-philosophy either. Really, keep whichever gun serves YOUR purposes best. They are both good guns.

That's a classic no-brainer for me. I'd keep the Colt and dump the Kimber without hesitation.

At this time, it's an easy choice; keep the Colt.
Those guns have nothing to make them better, but they currently have the eye of collectors. Of course it depends on what you want to do by getting rid of one. If your goal is to make some money, sell the Colt.
10 years from now the tables may turn and your Colt may be worthless.

I only have one 1911, a Series 70 Colt that I bought new in 1974. I
may someday get another 1911 but the Colt will stay regardless. Keep
the Colt.

"Never say never" but for some reason I doubt it.
I'd keep the Colt if I couldn't keep'em both.

Since we're doing pics...
First handgun I ever bought and still own.
And the Gold Cup I bought a few years ago.
Cocked&Locked's pics look a lot better than mine.
I don't show the side with the idiot scratch. They were there when I bought them but I might have made them worse.

My vote goes to:
Nothing against the Commander model either. This one is in 9mm.
But my preference is for the Super .38 Auto.

Well, I guess it 'pears to be pret-near anonymous.
I expected the Colt to be the top choice, but I figured there would be a few Kimber lovers. I am crazy about both guns. I believe the Kimber is from the 90s. It is a real Cadillac when compared to some of the bargain 1911s. The Colt is too, however.
I'll probably keep both, and after the results of this thread, and one on another board, I will definitely keep the Colt if I move either one. It's just that I'm into the Kimber so cheap, right around $300.

Our OP has asked... Kimber Pro Carry or Colt 1911. I will say nothing bad about a Kimber, but if I had to make the choice of which one to part with (extreme emergency situation only) I'd say bye-bye to the Pro Carry and keep my Officers 45 ACP.
One man's opinion.

I may have counted wrong, but I did not see any votes for Kimber, and with no profiling at all, I would have thought the under forty crowd would have chimed in with a loud howl in favor of the Kimber.
I on the other hand, would not trade one 70s 1911 for multiple Kimbers of the modern era....I would however buy a Kimber for the $300.00 like you did !!

I have a couple similar to yours - A series 70 Colt Gold Cup, and a Kimber, pre-series ll, Custom Target.
The Colt has a lot prettier finish. The Kimber is tighter, more accurate and reliable. No hammer bite with the Kimber, if that is an issue to you.
As a shooter, I would keep whichever pistol is more accurate and reliable. From a collectors standpoint, the Colt comes out ahead, though the pre-series ll Kimbers are starting to bring a little more money than later models with the firing pin lock.

There is very little bad to say about the Kimber.
I own these in Colt however.

Mostly I don’t like Colt guns. That said the series 70 is an excellent gun for the most part. The one I had was totally reliable, accurate to a fault, and one of the best 1911 pistols I have ever shot. I am not sorry I sold it, but it was great. I had a first generation Kimber Blued 1911, Classic Custom that was even better and a lot prettier.
I would take either of the above over a Kimber Pro Carry. It is a decent enough gun but just not the quality of the Colt series 70.
One other factor is the collector value of the Colt will most likely be much greater in the future than the Kimber Pro Carry.
Finally those series 70 Colts are real difficult to find, whereas the Kimber Pro Carry is much easier to pick up later on.
I would say take the Colt series 70 without a doubt.
