I cant have one because Shasta will use it as a scratching post and get stuff everywhere. I now only use a plastic tree which has tiny lights all over the branches.

Our trees get placed in corners.
Every year.

Then I tie them up, to each wall that makes up the corner.
Every year.

If a corner has been used before and I can run a screw into last year's hole, even better.

If I have to poke a hole into a wall or the window frame, so be it.
One year several years ago, the damned tree fell over twice.
I've tied them up ever since.

Poor thing doesn't understand about tipsy Christmas trees. Pet him on the head, tell him it will be all right, and give him a dog biscuit. Probably scared the bejabbers out of the beast.

Neighbor of mine years ago always bought a fine natural tree and decorated it beautifully. Finally she decided to try an artificial tree and bought a really nice, expensive one. She decorated it magnificently as usual, and left for work the next morning. When she got home her demon-possessed cat, a rotten-spoiled 29-pound tom, had pulled the tree down and pretty much trashed it.

She set it back up, decorated it with care again, and came home from work to find it wrecked all over the floor.

The third time he did it, she said to hell with it. She broke it down, put it away, and then played a hunch: she went out and bought a pricey natural tree. Put it up and decorated it. Came home from work and the damn cat hadn't touched it but was just sitting gazing at it and purring.

The evil little sod was a purist.

True story.

As for Angus, well, boys will be boys...

The difficult thing about the dog looking at you with the "What.." face is NOT laughing. Its so hard not to crack up and laugh at them while they're sitting there so proud of their accomplishment.

I feel your pain. This is the first Christmas in our 37 years together that my wife and I have not put up a tree. We just knew that a Christmas tree and our 16 week old Irish Wolfhound "Doc", a/k/a Polter-Dog was a recipe for disaster.

Angus just couldn't figure out why it fell over. The trees outside don't.

I still recall the first Christmas tree my first Shepard saw. He looked at the tree, looked up at me and you could see the thought baloon: "Thanks, boss, now I don't have to go outside."

With a properly sized Louisiana state safety approved Christmas Tree stand that sort of thing does not happen. For just $79.99 we can provide you with a cat proof (up to Bobcat size) Christmas tree stand with a 99 year guarantee. Please advise me of how many you want and we do accept credit cards. For those buying them by the dozens we offer a $5.00 per tree or $60.00 per dozen discount.

Don’t hesitate, we only have three and a half million left in stock.

Don't wait until this kind of disaster befalls your tree. Act now. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

All dogs are like 2 year old humans. Some are stronger than others. Most like to have fun at our expense.

That's what we did this year. The danged cat that hasn't touched a thing on the full sized trees for the last 4 years (her first 4 years of life!) has decided that the ornaments have to be removed, there are a number of them all piled on the floor each morning in front of the tree. At least the dog knows to "Leave 'em!" .

Old Frito was a Christmas kind a kitty cat. The first Christmas he went after the ornaments as we were putting them on the tree. He Really loved the "ice cicles" and we had to quit putting them on the trees.

Once we got it up and decoratted he would sleep under it every night and not mess with it....much

What he loved was the PRESENTS! He would worm his way in and around until he had a place all for himself. Any time we couldn't find him all we had to do was move the presents around and there he'd be. Purring and happy as he could be. If one would catch his eye now and then he might chew a corner off or rearrange the ribbon. But he only did it to a very few. I will always miss him and especially at Christmas time.

The "BOYZ" didn't adopt us until January 7th of this year and we will be in Florida for Christmas so we won't be having a tree here. It would be interesting to see how it would go. Maybe we'll find out next year. I don't know whether to look forward to it or to dread it. But one thing for sure I WILL have the camera ready to document the carnage.

Gotta love pets. At least once a day the wife says, "no more, we're never getting another pet. I can't wait for the day we're pet free." I shake my head and smile. We have three cats. I didn't rescue and bring home a single one of the cats that sleep on her pillow at night.

A couple of years ago I mentioned in a few years we would need to get another setter to trend in and take over as my pup Timber moved into old age. A few weeks later she had a brand new orange belton English Sstter for me. What was her excuse. She wants to re-carpet in a couple of years and wasn't going to have a new pup making puddles and sticking up the carpet. I told her well when the Gentry, the new pup gets to be about five we'll need to phase in another puppy. I remember the words "over my dead body". Last week she had to show me a new video of some English Setter pups posted by a breeder.

She'll never be pet free. The carpets will always have a spot or two, chairs will have a chewed legs, the drapes will have kitty claw marks and yes, Christmas trees will have ornaments knocked off and leg left on the lower branches. The offenders will wag their tails, rub against our legs and put their heads in our laps and love us like no person ever will. We'll forgive them like they always forgive us.

So, Cajun what toy did you get to put in the offending pups Christmas stocking?

MONKEY!!!

I have to hang our tree from the ceiling. Cat couldn't knock it over, but I did catch her swinging in it like a chimp.

No pictures, didn't happen.

I solved this problem years ago - I bolted the tree stand to a 40 x 40 inch sheet of plywood to keep the cat, dog, and then 2 and 3 year old daughters from knocking over the tree.

This is the first Christmas in 28 + years that my wife and I have not had a dog or two to worry about bothering the Christmas tree.....it kinda sucks! Enjoy them while you have them and let 'em have their fun. You'll look back on it someday and smile.
