Any doctors here? Jock itch medications?

I had this once over in Chu Lai. A Navy coreman gave me a small bottle of liquid and told me to rub the solution on the afflicted area. I did and just about went thru the roof of the tent. Burned like crazy. Read the bottle instructions and it turned out that the solution was to be diluted something like 10 to 1. :eek: The fungus never came back. Haven't thought about that in years. That being said, see a Doctor. It's probably some type of fungus and it should be cured not just pacified.

If it turns out to be crabs instead, I heard the cure on one of those daytime talk shows!

Shave half of the effected area.

Spray the other half with lighter fluid, light the lighter fluid.

When the crabs run to the shaved area, stab them with an ice pick.

The major difficulty with this solution is that ice picks are no longer common in the home. :eek:
 
As a longtime sufferer, I think most of the remedies mentioned here would work, but as has been mentioned, you may have to go to your doctor for a prescription for the weapons-grade stuff.
But something that has not been mentioned is the importance of dry, seriously clean clothes. Wash underwear in hot water and bleach. Period. Change them as often as you can when they become damp with sweat. Don't do like I still have a tendency to do and wear that favorite pair of bluejeans for a week just because they are comfortable, even though you may not have worked or sweat in them. If you are like me and not fashion oriented, it may seem to make sense to wear the same shirt again, if it doesn't stink and isn't dirty. But if you get some of the fungus in your clothes from wearing them, you are only going back to square one. This goes for sweaters and jackets, too if you wear them too long. You beat me to to this by 2 minutes. The only difference was I got the info from my drill instructor.
 
Use Tinactin made FOR JOCK ITCH

The bug (Tinea cruris) for jock itch is different from the athletes foot fungus so 'general' products may not do the job. Tinactin works for me. If you don't get satisfaction with that I would see a dermatologist.
 
Desenex and, later, Lidex ointment worked fairly well for my FEET. Not sure what they would do to family jewels, wouldn't even think about getting any on a more important member.

What ultimately worked for the feet was frequent exposure. Not so sure how your fellow parishioners will react to that in your case.

Theoretically, a dermatologist would be the next step. Since I had my foot problem solved not by a dermatologist but by his assistant who had served with the Marines (not sure whether he was a corpsman or a marine), maybe you should keep reading replies here and hope for the best.

After a shower, apply finger nails liberally to itchy area. When affected area is good & red, rinse well with turpentine :)

No matches needed, it will be a flameless BURN.
 
Don't know if they still make it but I second Bevill's Lotion. It absolutely works as the acid eats away the affected skin. Worked well for me when I played football. T4L is about the same stuff but it may not be available either.
 
You need a bottle of rum, a good cigar, a live chicken, a Jobu statue, and on the night of a full moon you take off... Wait! I'll get banded for talking religion! :eek::eek: See a doctor and do not lie about where it hurts.

In the past, I have used the strongest Tinactin or Lotramin LIQUID I could find to get through the initial onslaught. Then use the Zeasorb AF daily to keep it at bay.

Just realize, this will not be an overnight cure. It will take time.

Also, the other recommendations to wear looser underwear & clothing are a must.

I knew it would be here.

One of my buddies in Viet Nam acquired the little creatures from a "social engagement" in the ville.
We had heard that one already, so I made up a variant when I saw him sitting on his rack looking quite concerned- I had a 45 in my right hand while I handed him my Randall with my left. Told him to start stabbin em, and I'd shoot any he missed or only wounded. :D

Mercurochrome works if you can find some. Keep them dry for a few days and you're good as new except the color thing.

Grandpa taught me that one summer when I got it.
 
Well I'm sure that any number of remedies listed here would do the trick but, and all humor aside for the moment, what every you use you will be worlds more comfortable if you are now wearing jockey style briefs to switch at least for the duration of your problem to boxer shorts. Go ahead and ask me how I know........ :rolleyes:
 
If your skin is smooth and not cracked, blistered, peeling etc. you need a steroid cream. If it is cracked, blistered, peeling etc. you need an anti-fungal like Lotrimin.
 
the bug cure may be worse then the condition. have used white vinegar to help defeat a fungal affliction, wash the area well with soap and wash rinse well with a clean cloth, and bath the area with straight vinegar, any open areas will burn. do this 2-3 time per day. use a clean towel everyday, wear clean under roos daily and change after working all day. do this daily for about 10 days. what ever you use it will need to be done 2-3 times per day every day, missing a day allows the bacteria to grow back. clean clothes and towel are important so there is no reinfection. lose undies and pants help reduce the heat and sweat.
 
I wish to thank you all for your advice.
I am going to write down all the various brands of medication mentioned here........ I'll try each and every one of them until I find something that works. I'll consider the home remedies mentioned as well.

As a very last resort I suppose I'll go see a doc, but honestly it is just too damn embarrassing.

FWIW......I do not wear briefs......have not since childhood. I always wear loose-fitting boxers. As for personal hygiene well, what can I say? I'm a clean dude!:)..........I probably take too many showers.......sometimes 5 per day due to my itch.

A few posters have mentioned things like "bugs" & "crabs". Yikes!! I honestly don't think it can be anything like that. Those type of afflictions can only come from bad hygiene correct?

(Oh and Kamloops67...the "Hoppes 9 & steel wool" advice was funny but you know what? I may just try it:D)

I found that switching from wool shorts to cotton seems to work, for me anyway.:rolleyes:
