Have of any of our members had Tikosyn treatment for their atrial fibrillation? Since my heart attack last October, my cardiologists cannot control my atrial fibrillation. They now want me to be hospitalized for 4 days so that they can administer a drug called Tikosyn. You must be in hospital for constant monitoring during the treatment due to the drugs side effects. I am planing on trying it since I have few other choices.

I have had atrial fibrillation going on 14 years. At first, they tried chemical conversion and three times, electroconversion. Nothing worked. So I have been on four maintenance drugs which I take every morning and I'm still going strong. I get winded if I exert myself (for example jogging), but I recover pretty quickly. My heart beats like an old John Deere tractor (poppin Johnny) runs, but it hasn't failed yet. My condition isn't severe enough for radio frequency ablation, but that may be a solution for you. Good luck.

So far I've been lucky with my AFib. Had the heart stopped for about 20 seconds and then restarted and I seem to be doing okay. Before the conversion, I had a pacemaker installed and I was on Warfarin and Plavix. Stopped taking both of those, but I'm on Sotalol to help control the AFib. Heart Dr. wants me to think about going back on Warfarin due to the possibility of a stroke, since I have the AFib, but the pacemaker readout last time showed only one episode that lasted 2 seconds or so before the heart went back into sinus rhythm. I am going to discuss it with the Dr. who put in the pacemaker the next time I have an appt. with him.

My case is similar to Swilli41, I am 65, but for 11 years and 6 cardioversions attempts some 4 chemical 2 electro. none of which lasted more than a couple of weeks. Was going to have the ablation proceedure but the Doc decided against it at the last minute, blood was too thin. So I am taking various (not amiodarone) meds my heart rythm like is all over the place, but very minimal side effects. Doc. says if I start getting winded or chest pains we'll look at the ablation proceedure again.
I did take Warfarin or coumadin for 10 and a bit years then in October he suggested I switch to Eliquis which is a sort of blood thinner which doesn't require the monthly monitoring by blood samples at a clinic. It is not affected by diet so one can eat spinach or other greens without affecting the blood sample. I am happy with the Eliquis and no side effects that I know of.
I have never heard of the Tikosyn treatment but will look into it and ask my Dr next time I see him not before 5 months hopefully.
