it's like selling anything, when the relief of upkeep ,stress of ownership, etc is gone you feel better...like a car, boat etc.........BUT ,when it comes to guns the regrets will surely come later.

Yeah, my last go round with selling was due to divorce. No fun there at all.

Default It would have to be.....

It would have to one bad gun for me to enjoy selling it. Only if the benefit far outweighs the negatives. I HAD to sell my model 10 in order to get my 686 and I still regret it.

It isn't as hard as yo think. After you reach a certain age, (one that begins with a 7). I have sold three and given away one on the last year. All 3 were rifles, and the one I gave away was to my son so that he can teach my grandson to shoot with a good rifle. Haven't parted with a S&W yet, (I'm still buying).

After reading what you all said. Hmmmmm
I better stop selling then. I owe $1200 for my boat slip. I pay cash every year. I am going to pay up tomorrow and i was going to bring my SW R-8 and give him the gun for the boat slip. Maybe i shouldn't do that.

I recently sold most of mine, and I found the same thing. It was fun. I wished I had more to sell. I met some great people, and I know they will enjoy the guns as much as I did.

At first it felt "funny". I kept waiting for the "regret" people say I'll experience, but I can't say I miss any of them. It's not like I had any emotional attachment to them, they were just things. Most of them I didn't even shoot but a few times. The real FUN for me, was the hunt. Stopping by the gun store, or going to a gun show and seeing something I liked, and getting it. Once that was done, it was on to the next one.

In the process I found there were a few guns I actually did like, but since they're pretty common, I didn't "regret" selling them. I just bought another one later on.

I recently sold three guns after I found myself thinking that maybe I should pull the bolts from my Model 70's to make more room in the safe.

There is a good deal of satisfaction in taking good pictures, accurately describing your gun, and realizing the market price on Gunbroker.

FEG P90DA. Was VERY happy when it sold. Nothing really wrong with it but I just never warmed up to it like I thought I would. Beautiful pistol but just not quite "right."

Broke my heart to sell my unissued condition '53 Polish M44 Mosin but it financed my SR1911. Not sorry.

My age begins with 8. So far this year I've bought two: a Shansei 45 ACP copy of the Broomhandle and a Chinese broomhandle in 7.63. Haven't sold any so far this year, but hope springs eternal. My kids can dispose of them.

I parted with some surplus military stuff to purchase s&w n frames. It was sad but happy, happy at the sametime. Plus the new assault rifle ban and registration forced me to do it. I'm tired of fighting the tide of the anti's with semi auto rifles.

I keep sayin' that I need to sell 'em off and I actually have sold a few recently. All of the buyers seemed well pleased. The problem is I've bought twice as many as I have sold. At least I won't have buyer's remorse to the extent that I will be buying more like the ones I sold. No way I can afford those prices.

You are familiar with the old joke about the 2 best days of a boat owners life?

With 2 teenagers in the house and a local dentist picking my pocket my gun fund sometimes includes selling one to buy one. I'm back into revolvers with a 686 and wanting a N frame. I keep opening the safe and staring, thinking who might be my next victim.

I haven't necessarily found it to be fun but when I have sold guns it has been with a goal in mind. Most have been guns that I bought because the deal was right and the guns were cool, but once they were in hand it wasn't such a big deal. I enjoy finding them and the thrill of having something really rare or a neat custom but it wears off.

As many of you are aware, I sold a bunch of guns a couple of years ago to finance the purchase of a classic car. That turned out to be a terrific choice, I've gotten far more pleasure out of the car than I did from having the guns sitting in the safe. I sold 4 more a couple of weeks ago, vintage customs that I enjoyed owning but didn't use. I did it after giving the car a lot of thought - I enjoy the car because it is unique and I use it - the guns were unique but nothing more than expensive knick knacks since they weren't being used. I guess my focus has changed, now I find myself more interested in keeping guns that will get taken out and used for carry/ competition/hunting/etc., and less interested in the 'knick knacks". Interestingly, it turns out that I'm okay with owning fewer guns and being able to show pictures of the really cool stuff I've had that is now being enjoyed by someone else.

ETA: Don't worry that I've gone completely mad, a portion of the proceeds is going to pay for a couple of custom builds.

Last December I sold 5 and bought one Ruger 1911. The ones I sold I had never shot or weren't perfect examples of what I wanted. My wife had complained I had too many guns and my safe was overfull. I have a bit more room in it now and too have thought about what next to sell. I'm also thinking on what next to buy.
It wasn't so hard but wasn't the first time I sold guns either. I'll probably do it again but maybe not anytime real soon either.

I KNEW there was a boat somewhere in the equation Springtime is for boat stuff. Then towards the end of August it switches back to gun stuff. I know these things

That's so true.. Boating is my summer thing. Been doing that for 50 years. I will die with a boat !!!!! I have bought 10 boats in my life time and the last one i bought was new. Parker-- best boat i have ever owned.
See all those international reels and rods. All gone. I sold them all and bought guns with the money. Now -we just take the kids out to the sand bars. I still go scuba diving with my son. I still fish but not as much as i use to. It's cost $600 in gas- $100 in 2 stroke oil and $200 in bait and ice,to go tuna fishing. I'm done with that.....

I sold my 30 foot sailboat last year that I owned since 1985. I sold my jet boat the year before and now all I have is a mini bass boat and old duck boat. I may have to buy a bigger fishing boat this year as I love being out on the water.

But back to selling guns. A few years ago I sold off my Colts as they didn't do it for me much and concentrated on my S&Ws. I missed some at first but got me over the selling guns thing pretty well.
In the past 5 years I've sold or traded more than I bought. The 5 years prior though I bought many and could afford to make more room in my safe. Now that I've given up waterfowl hunting I should sell some of my shotguns too.

Sweet Parker!!! Like the cabin!
Length and size motor please.
Know what you mean about the cost. My Hatteras 53 got sold out from under me unexpectedly (no good friend bought a 60 foot that he is keeping down in Ocean Reef so as to save the 90,000 sales tax if he brings it up to Louisiana) Says I am welcome to fly down to fish anytime and I'm thinking "yea right" for the price of a weekend I could buy that Parker.
So it's back to marsh fishing full time in the Whaler-which ain't too shabby!

I bought it new in 05- it's the 2320 w/200 HPDI. That boat is more sea worthy then me. I have been in 8 ft. sea -80 miles out and never even got the cabin wet. I want to repower with a 250 Yamaha 4 -stroke soon.

I don't know about "fat profits"...my modus operandi is to buy high and sell low.

I bought, sold, and traded over 100 guns in the last 3 years. Not a lot for some, but seemed like a lot to me. I've slowed way down now, and I don't see that level of activity returning. Looking back, there are some guns that I wish I still had, but mostly I enjoy the hunt for and acquisition of a new gun, more than I do the ownership of most guns.

Oh man. Thanks for that. I feel much better. I thought I might have been the only one with those urges.

I like to see people do things they like to do and have fun. But selling a gun is a concept that would be a long way from fun for me. I have only bought 2 guns in my over half a century of buying guns that I regretted buying and I didn't mind selling them. But it wasn't fun. On both occasions it just felt like a pain in the neck. I guess I'm comin' up on the time when I have to start letting go of a few but I'm not gonna fight that fire until I feel the heat.

Now when it comes to BUYING guns well, that's a whole 'nother thang!

I've bought, sold and traded plenty over the years. My main rule is when I sell a gun, the money goes towards another gun. There have been many and only two I truly wish I had back. The side benefit is I recently sold a few accumulated grips, holsters and other misc. that brought me enough cash to be shopping for another gun!

Best deal for me was selling a Ruger Mini-30 that I bought over 3 years ago from a friend at work. I never even fired it - just thought at the time I should have a long-gun of some kind. Sold it a few weeks ago profiting enough to turn a stock 1911 into a pretty nice one-of-a-kind MINE. It's shipping to a 'smith this week!

After so many years I've gotten my collection to a point where everything is pretty much a favorite. If I buy something new and don't like it I don't keep it long. Usually one trip to the range is enough for me to tell. I have pretty much always broken even or made money on all my deals. The one exception that stands out is a Model 60 no dash that I just bought at the wrong time. Should have known better. It was a financial stretch to buy it and finances got worse right after I got it so I sold it right away and think it cost me about $30.
