Question for Lonesome Dove junkies
I know there are many Lonesome Dove fans here. I am a huge fan myself. I just finished watching it for the umpteenth time and noticed during the "the producers would like to thank....." credits that the last name is Willie Nelson. Does anyone know if this is THE Willie Nelson and what his contribution was to the movie?
Thank you!

Gee, wish I had thought of that. Doesn't really answer the question now does it?

Found several references to the credit, not much info.
I site did say Willie did some 'scripting.' ??
Willie Urban legend time-
Back when he was having all kinds of problems, Willie needed a place to lay low for a while.
Somebody recommended that he go to Chama, NM.
So go to Chama he did and checked into the hotel across from the train station. He really blended in well. About every other guy in Chama looks just like Willie. After a few days he was so disappointed that nobody recognized him that he left.

I read one online article that indicated that the Lonesome Dove set was the one Willie had built for his movie The Redheaded Stranger. I've never seen that one so I can't compare the two.

IMDb lists him in the "Thanks" section for the four episodes. No mention of why, only "The producers wish to thank".

Well, it's no secret Willie likes his weed. Maybe he shared some of it.

If you look close, you can see him in the tree near the river where Woodrow sat. You might have to squint and hold your tongue just right.
Oh, how abouts a poke?

If it was Willie, it would be "Oh, how abouts a toke?"

Willie Nelson at the time owned the Adobe Walls in Texas where some of the film was shot. If I remember correctly he was, at the time one of the largest landowners in Texas and I believe they shot other parts of the movie on his land. He got into some trouble with the IRS not too long after that and he might not own all that land anymore. But yes, it is T.H.E. Willie Nelson and this is why his name appeared in the credits. I seem to remember that many of his fellow musicians and actors came to his aide when the IRS got on him.

Here is a little contrast for you Lonesome Dove junkies. This was taken facing away from the ranch house on the town side of the bridge in Lonesome Dove. BTW, we didn't see Willie!

I understand most all of that set is gone now. Just a few boards remain. Read that somewhere.
