On my regular bookstore visit in search of bargains, I came across a rather interesting selection that I had not seen before. Titled, "The Civil War in Color", the large format book featured colorized versions of famous Civil War photos, most side-by-side with the original sepia versions. Admittedly some of modernized coloration looked odd, but most of the photos had an eery 3-D quality to them, and many were simply beautiful. It was indeed strange to see Grant, Lee, and even Lincoln, colorized in photos I first saw in B&W decades ago. The most striking photo was of a group of Pennsylvania Zouaves, resplendent in reds and blues. I didn't purchase this book, but may do so on my next visit. For Civil War students, historians, and aficionados, it is definitely worth a look.
