The Robber Fly, a little known predator
Spotted this guy on one of my dribblers today. He was chowing down on something too small to ID and my big camera was not available for an extreme close-up, had he let me. This is a small one, about 1/2-5/8 inch long at the most. I've seen a giant one eating a moth and I have other pictures of them eating bees and damselflies. "Eating" is a bit of a misnomer as they are a juice sucker.

I don't know, but a lot of the Efferia species seem to have it.

Last time that I heard that asked was about the size of some South Texas mosquitos.
The local immediately answered, "So big that they can stand flat-footed and 'make love' (euphemism) to a turkey."
Texans can always paint a mental picture that will stick with you for a while.
