Not to Say You're a Fat Head....
but has your hat size changed after gaining weight? I'm about to order a Stetson and they are only available in s m & L.
No I ain't rich, it's a $70.00 hat and I'm not even sure it's made in the USA.

Well I may be a poor one to ask. I'm carrying a few extra pounds these days but my hair fell out so I guess that for me it'd be a break-even deal.

I'd measure your head and then talk to them, or email them, and ask about the correct size. I also don't think weight gain affects hat size.

I thought real Stetson hats only came in fixed sizes. Are you sure it's a Stetson? You might also look at Resistol for good hats.
I guess if I were going to plunk down serious money on a hat, and I have, I'd go to the store and try it on. The one that fit is the one I'd buy.

If you put on considerable weight you're head will get bigger, not like your stomach or butt does of course. Size will increase everywhere from head to feet. One hat size to the next won't matter much unless you get real heavy.

I quit watching TV news--anybody's TV news--when I found it had shrunk my head till I needed a size 5 hat. Fortunately it's now back to its normal size 7 1/2.

I was cleaning out the garage last weekend, and I found my high school graduation mortarboard. I weighed about 185 then and had a full head of hair. Size? 7-3/8. Now, I'm about 90 pounds heavier and have a shaved head - there's so little left it's not worth growing it. Hat size now? 7-5/8. Went up a quarter inch.
So I guess the short answer would be yes, my hat size has increased as I gained weight. Which is too bad, since the Stetson I inherited from my Dad is a 7-3/8... and they can only stretch it to 7-1/2.

Isn't there a Stetson outlet in St.Jo? If you're close you might check them out.

I had a leather hat just like that one when I was a young buck in the late 70's.
It was hot and heavy with no liner. I later dyed it black to hide the sweat stain.

My 4XXX Beaver Stetson was 110 bucks over 30 years ago & I've gained a lot of weight since then. The old Stetson still fits fine.

I have one of Stetson lower grade hats that was a Christmas gift from one of my sons. It got caught in enough storms, that it needed reblocking, so I went to a "Western" store near by. The girl in the hat department said that couldn't be done so as I was leaving the owner or manager ask if he could help me. When I told him they said they had no way to service my hat, he was very surprised. We went back to the hat department, he took my hat and went in the back room. A few minutes later the, the girl left with her coat in her hand. The boss came out a little latter with my hat. Since the hat was not a line they carried, there was a small fee. I inquired about the girl, and he said she only wanted to sell hats, instead of give customer service. She'll have to do that elsewhere. My brother has shopped there for years, I do to, now! A real hat store can do wonders with a "used" hat, if they want to have repeat business. Ivan

Fat Head? Yes! It varies from 7-3/8 to 7-1/2 depending on brand and my size went up 1/8 when I quit smoking and put on 30 pounds!
Do yourself a favor, find your actual hat size, spend the extra $$$ and check these guys out. I've been buying hats here since 1995 when I got my first Dobbs:

I just bought a Stetson today. A Stratoliner, in silver belly. It is sized. You can't beat a nice felt hat. Do yourself a favor and go to a hat store in your area. Then you can be sure of the hat size. They will properly fit and block the hat to you. But be prepared to spend more than 70 bucks.

Bought a Stetson in 1985 weighed in at 185 then. It still looks new. I however do not. My weight has been up an down since then. Been as high as 245 and today is at 218 and coming down. The hat fits just as good today as it did in 1985. Silver Belly by John is a nice investment. 1985 it set me back $110 dollars.

Ok music aficionados, (without google) who gave us the lyrics...
"Oh Bobby I'm sorry you gotta head like a potato. I really am"?
And for extra credit name the album, which is also somewhat appropriate to the topic.
Back to the original post. I seldom wear a hat, but I've noticed the Resistol Panda of my yoot has strangely shrunk!
