The Minister & the lawnmower
My lawnmower has gone wheels-up. I tore the whole thing apart today, degreased, float bowl off the carb, new plug, fresh gas. Emoreyed the EI contacts. Flat dead.
There's a place @ a 2 miles that I've heard good things about. Repair and buy used rebuilt. Figured I'd give it a try. Don't know if they're open Sundays, nothing to lose.
One vehicle up front and an open door. I walk into a Church. Black minister there to greet me, probably his daughter by the Alter. Empty otherwise.
I explain I'm looking for the small engine repair guy. Not open today though he was here earlier.
We step outside and I ask him if he could say a prayer for my lawnmower.
I had this big man doubled over with laughter. We were both in stitches. Told him to have a Blessed Day, he returned the sentiment.
Ya just can't make this stuff up. Truth is often stranger than fiction!

If it will start momentarily with a shot of ether (starting fluid) you have a fuel problem, if not, it is spark related and may be something as simple as the kill switch that is activated when you release the handle on your handlebar.
I can almost bet it is something simple. I sailed through the recession and a lay-off fixing these things.

Thanks ralph7, you're probably right. I've been working on motors 54 of my 64 years. It's probably in the carb which I didn't take off/apart. Getting fuel though, wet plug. Good thing I don't charge myself by the hour or sore joints.
The "kill safety" has always been a problem.

Good luck with the mower rimfired.
Nothing gets my dander up and the cuss words flying more than
a darned mower or trimmer or chainsaw that won't cooperate.
Good idea on having it "blessed". Never tried that approach before
but can't hurt.

Dry the plug - Dry out the cylinder - Try a shot of ether or WD-40 in the spark plug hole, put the plug in fast (not necessarily tight) and see if it fires.

Sorry, do you use the dark background? Might be the issue.

I knew a guy who become so enraged working on his lawnmower, a pretty good-sized one, that he picked it up and threw it over his garage.
Of course his philosophy when working on mechanical devices could be summed up as, "Damn you, you WILL fit!"

Many, many years ago, we experienced a monsoon, followed by a day of intense sunshine. Everyone decided to mow their yards, and we had a spate of lawnmower related accidents at my ER (Emergency Room) - primarily, traumatic amputations of toes and fingers as people, not thinking, reached into the stalled mower to remove the huge plugs of wet grass. The "winner" would have to be the guy that experienced a stall, reached into to clear it and lost fingers off of his right hand, was so enraged that he punched the mower with is left hand and lost most of it, which enraged him even further, so he kicked the mower with his (bare) foot and lost the top 1/3rd of his that. He was one mad cussin' son of a gun, and his wife inadvertantly added salt to the wound by saying, as we were patching him up, "I've gotta run home real quick to shut that mower off. We was in such a hurry to get him here that I left it running in the yard." You should know better than to reach into a stalled mower, and you should know better than to mess with the lawnmower from hell.
Regards,
Dave

My wife is a Wound Care RN at a children's hospital.
EVERY year at around this time till fall they have A LOT of kids that were riding on the lawnmower with gramps and fell or jumped off losing parts that will NEVER grow back!!!!!!!!
DON'T DO IT!!!!!!
Not one of them ever thought that they wouldn't be able to protect their grand kid --- It ALWAYS was some other guy.
DON'T DO IT!!!!!! (Ever Again)

Randy, buy a goat; it'll keep your grass cropped low & fertilized.
Then after the first frost you can have a BBQ.
They're pretty good eating, if done right!
Along with copious amounts of beer.

I'd like to read the post, but I'm gonna have to wait for the movie. Maybe dark gray print over a black background would be easier to read. Maybe not.
