What is with soccer players?
Do these guys take flopping lessons from NBA players or something? I mean somebody comes within 5 feet of them and they go down like they had a torn ACL, then writhe around on the ground like a pro wrestler. Next thing you know, they make a miraculous recovery and take off running down the field when the refs ignore them. If they spent as much time trying to score as they do laying down faking it the game might be entertaining.

Preaching to the choir here. Some atrociously bad acting going on.

The late Alex Karras, former Detroit Lion DT and broadcaster had the best line, IMO, about former pro soccer FG kickers in football:
"I keeck a touchdown, I keeck a touchdown."

Think about it. There are no timeouts. You can't just stop a play, you got a guy who has the ball and he's looking like he's about to score. and all of a sudden he "trips" you. The ref stops the game, his momentum is lost, the chance to score is lost.
You stop the play, maybe take the ball since they do actually push and shove each other

Yeah fine, but can't they learn to ACT better than they do? Get some WWF wrestlers to teach them how to fall down. I would be embarrassed to look that silly.
And what's with added time? Why does a 90 minute game last 95 minutes with "added time." That would be like telling Greg Maddux, when he threw a 78 pitch complete game, because he threw so few pitches they had to play more than 9 innings.

The add time sometimes. The game is 90 min period. No less, no more. However, if the game stopped for some reason, say an actual injury or a goal debate where a replay view is needed, the game is stopped. So based on the time the game stopped they will add on to it at the end so that there is a full 90 min

Exactly, the clock runs continuously so if play is stopped (while the clock keeps running) due to an injury, goal celebration or substitution then that time is added back on at the end of the halves. It's not that complicated. The time ticking up or the home team being listed 1st on the scoreline takes some getting used to though...

Players can be booked (shown the yellow card) for simulation. Trouble is, many referees appear reluctant to dish them out during international matches. I think the reasoning is that the refereeing in many countries is so lax that should their national team find themselves being judged properly, they would be down to seven players by half time.
In the English Premier League the refs have got sick of it and often dish up the card, much to the chagrin of overseas players new to the league.

Um, yeah...
Any game in which grabbing your "junk" is an integral part of playing defense, I do not want to watch!

And yet strangely the game will go on whether you're watching or not!

In hockey, referees in the last two years have been very aggressive in dealing out embellishment fouls - to the point that guys who are legitimately splayed out from a hit or a hook often find themselves in the penalty box. The result is that attempts to draw fouls by overreacting have dramatically decreased. Like any sport, the league can control any and all player behavior -- if they choose to.

Right. In soccer there's unfortunately no instant review of a scene. Players can and will fake lots of stuff. If they do it right they get a free kick out of it. If they do it better the other player will get a yellow card. And if they do it best the other player is getting the red card. The referee has the last word and once he decides to take certain actions there's no way of taking it back. All they can do is to admit that they made a mistake after the game. It's called trying to get a tactical advantage and some people have perfected it.
I don't like those actors, but what do they care about my opinion. There have been great (oldschool) players around the world, but the youngsters just overdo it in my opinion.
Perhaps, if they would spend the time and money on reviewing actual scenes, spectators would get more and - even more importantly - fair action for their money.

Some of the countries and leagues see the flopping and diving as part of the game and if you can get away with it's acceptable. Other leagues and countries see it as unethical and should not be tolerated. You can see which ones do it as you watch the World Cup games.

I don't know which sport is worse! I remember Dwayne Wade falling to the ground when no one was within two feet of him in the last playoffs, but then in soccer there's "The Cannibal", who fell to the ground after biting an opposing player. Did he hurt his teeth or, get a tummy ache?
