Nearby is an old school barber shop , stiped pole , knotty pine , has seperate listing on the price list for Flat Tops, etc .
All that said , I've only had a store bought hair cut a handfull of times in the last 20yrs. With what I have left , it's not as if there is even a different possable way to do anything different. A #3 or #3 all over , only option is taper or square on the neckline. About the only time I personally go is if I have to be extra sharp for somthing , and I want the neck just perfect , and I don't have eyes in the back of my head. Heck if they offered a neckline service by itself for $5 or so I'd go every two weeks. $15 + tip may be reasonable compared to the salons , but $15 + tax getx a 10 piece hair cutting kit from Wal Mart , and it will last 10 or 12 yrs.
Biggfoot jr still has hair . While pretty basic , his prefered 'cut is a little more complex than just mowing all over. So he'll get a store bought hair cut every third or forth one , the rest from Mom.

I haven't seen an old style barber shop in decades. I miss them.
I got assigned to a project in California back in the 80s and ended up getting my hair 'done' in a salon in Mission Vejio (pardon spelling) Mall for 6 months. I wasn't real sure about my stylist, but those were the best haircuts I've ever had. I did, however, discover a whole lot more gray in my hair at that point.
Yes, Valley Girls really did behave like the way they were portrayed on the large and small screens.

When I moved here I found an old time barber shop and was happy until I learned he was moving out of town and nobody was taking his place.
My wife suggested I go to her beauty shop run by Brenda in her basement right down the road. She mostly does old ladies but a few guys as well and does a good haircut and beard trim too. At first I was a little uncomfortable but the old ladies are a hoot and Brenda quite the talker. It costs me fifteen bucks with tip and I get a shampoo and neck shaved.
I miss the old time barber shop with gun magazines and hunting stories but don't know if they even exist in many places anymore.

Definitely a barbershop. Once I got my first neck shave and later on a razor cut, there was no going back for me.

I used to go to a salon. Got the whole treatment. Still have all my hair and it is medium length. Got to expensive.
Found a local barber shop that has 3Women and 2 men. They all do as good a job or better. From Flattops to long hair. No no wash and dry but I do not need that. The Gal I go to is really nice, cute and only charges $12, I tip her well

At the barber shop I used to go to, the barber was a real firebrand with strong opinions and never shied away from a good argument. Trouble was, he'd get to jawin' and disagreeing with someone sitting on the sidelines and lose his focus. Sooner or later, he'd dig too deep somewhere and suddenly your haircut needed to be short enough to match the gouge.

I must admit I do miss the old fashioned barber shop. But I really enjoy the haircuts I get from my stylist.
There is also a massage therapist in the building where her shop is. One time I was getting a haircut and the very attractive Woman who owns the massage business came up to talk to my stylist. Asked me if I was interested in a massage. I said "No, Ma'am, I really don't want to get a divorce". She didn't understand.
Missus Fan certainly did when I told her about it.

I just go to the "hair cutting place"...for $8 I get trimmed the way I like and without the hair tonic and smelly stuff afterwards.

For years I went to Billy, a good old-time barber in an old time shop who would do a haircut(and do a good job) for $8.
Back last September, Billy retired(wife has cancer) so I went to Charlie. Charlie's shop is the next street over, and in fact Billy started out cutting hair in Charlie's shop. I've been going there since then. $10 and he does a good job also. Billy was fairly quiet, and Charlie is the total opposite. Still, though, I always have a good time going even if it means that he'll sometimes stop cutting for a couple of minutes to tell a story.

I guess I am a 'salon' guy. My last three regular haircutters have been women, two of them quite attractive. My current one also does my wife's hair. There is an old-fashioned barber shop in the area, but it has lady barbers too, and it's not any cheaper.

Don't know what a barber shop or salon is. Got a full head of hair and last time in one for a shave or haircut was in 1972. When I left the army never been to one since. Now the little lady will trim the beard once or twice a year. Heck my grown up children in their 40's have never seen me without long hair and beard. Look at them money I've saved.

I left the Air Force in 1992, and only got my haircut every 6 months or so. I finally "powered" through the tricky point where it's too long to do anything with, but too short to tie back. I never was much of a hat guy, but I discovered that a hat helps a bunch with that transition.
Anyway, I still have pretty much the same head of hair I had as a kid, only much longer now, and a bit grayer. I've cut off my ponytail twice in the past 15 years, to donate it to the "Locks of Love" program, to be used to make wigs for young cancer patients who have lost their hair during treatment. Otherwise, I was just letting it grow, not getting it trimmed, or anything.
Well, since I started letting it grow again this last time, a lady friend said I'd look better if I kept it cleaned up a bit, and I suppose she was right. So now I go to a salon once every 3-6 months to get things straightened out and cleaned up. I tried a new place the last time, and I just made an appointment to go back there next month.
Yeah, a nice young lady shampoos my hair and massages my scalp. Then after cutting and trimming my hair, eyebrows, ears, nose, etc...she'll put a nice simple braid in my hair, and also braids my goatee. Since my hair is a bit over half way down my back, being braided makes it a bit shorter and easier to manage. I'm still trying to get the hang of braiding them myself...haven't gotten the knack of it yet. All that for $20 plus a tip...I figure it's worth it, especially since I only go 2 to maybe 4 times a year.

By the grace of Almighty God, I at age 57 still have a wonderful head of hair. Where do I go to get it trimmed? The local beautyshop! Simple reason why. Women know what a man should look like. I figure it's nice for women in general and my wife in particular to like the way I look. Men? Not really concerned with men liking the way I look.

Used to go to a three chair barbershop and had one fellow there cut my hair. Well one day I showed up and he wasn't there and got a hassle from another barber when I wouldn't let him cut my hair. As a result I've been cutting my own hair for quite awhile now. That's why I always wear a hat!

My wife, my kitchen chair, a pair of 25 year old clippers with a #1 attachment, and a kiss when she is finished---been doing this for about 30 years!
(Besides, any LEO is very uncomfortable around anyone with a straight razor in their hand)

Last time I went, it was a barber. He had just raised his price from $1.25 up to $1.50.

My grandfather took me for my first haircuts. I remember sitting on the board they put across the arm rests. The barbers name was Woody. He had a wooden leg and would drop coins, tip money I guess, into a hole in the prosthesis. That trick kind of creeped me out but I enjoyed the trip to the shop.
My best haircut was in Olongapo, PI. Decent haircut, manicure, beer, and other services were available without leaving the chair.

Self inflicted buzz cut in my garage with poodle clippers. I get my hair and beard all at the same time and look great.

What little hair I have left my wife buzzes off. In nice weather we do it on the front porch while I try and grope her, in the winter we do it in the bathroom while I try and grope her. My hair always gets cut and I'm always unsuccessful.

Had a real looker for a barber many years ago and enjoyed getting my haircut and the flirting we did as I was single then.
I was at a bar one night when I saw her there looking good and walked over and started talking with her and what dumb luck. After about five minutes she tells me I must be confusing her with her twin sister but thank you very much for the attention. Story of my life as learned this one had a steady boyfriend.
They later opened a salon together and I switched back and forth.

Barbershop/Salon
Back in the stone age (early 50's) our local barber raised his price for a haircut from a quarter to fifty cents and almost started a riot!!
There was talk of lynching him, riding him out of town on a rail, tar and feathering him and numerous other punishments for doubling his price overnight. (The very idea of him rolling in money almost couldn't be tolerated)
But, as a couple of weeks passed, and everyone's hair grew out, they began drifting back_
--(after all, who would want to drive 9 miles to the next town, and still pay fifty cents for a haircut?)
And, soon peace again returned to our small town---and I could slide myself up into the chair, and give the only order I was allowed to give at the age of 7----"Hey PC, gimmie a #1GI, I got fifty cent right here in my pocket.

Last time I was to a barber, she wanted to charge me an extra $5 for a 'Finder's Fee'.
