Default That was a surprise, my orange juice turned "hard"

Had a bowl of cereal this afternoon and poured a glass of orange juice that had been in a sealed bottle in the refrigerator for some time. Took a big drink and it about knocked my head off. It had turned hard!
As the good Bapticostal boy I am I don't drink. Now I wonder if I should drive at all today.

Yodka trumps religion every time. It caused many beatific visions. Well, maybe St. Thomas had something else in mind.

My son used to drink alot of apple juice mixed with brewer's yeast when he was quite young. At the time my wife and I were into all the hippie dippie **** raising our son right on homemade yogurt and homemade baby food we processed and froze in ice cube trays. I had a source for real natural apple juice and had to buy it in larger than quart sized containers. If kept a little too long that stuff would get "fizzy" my wife thought it was disgusting but my son and I guzzled it down all the more and I found with just a little tinkering I could get some pretty snappy juice. My little boy called it "fizzy gook" it kind of stuck, he couldn't quite get juice out right. Any natural juice will turn "fizzy" unless its had stuff added to prohibit the formation of alcohol, usually pastureization takes care of that. My mother tried to can up some grape juice when we lived on property that was covered with grapes, her canning didn't set properly and she ended up with a couple gallons of fairly decent wine, she gave it to a road crew that was working out in the hot sun...they didn't get alot of work done after drinking a couple quarts a piece.

Just poured it all down the drain.

I was raised that drinkin' is a horrible sin. Of course so is smoking, listening to rock music, going to movies and, uh, you know, with the Women you ain't married to. Of course I did all of those things on a regular basis.

I quit drinking in late 1984. A few years ago I had a Bodyguard assignment with a Woman who was very scared. We were at her house and I took a drink out of her Pepsi can. It was about half Crown Royal.

Pretty much had the same affect on me.

I was given the choice of doing a 6 month Temporary Duty to Saudi Arabia in 1986 or going to the NCO Academy. I choose going to Saudi. While being a dry country some skilled members of the team I was assigned to made some wine by using frozen grape juice concentrate, sugar, yeast and bottled water. It got the job done.

When I hit that magic year representing 20 years of service had I stayed in and "Applied" myself rather than rebelling and fighting the "green machine" having a good time with all my draftee buddies...I realized in hindsight that it was probably a mistake turning them down when offered the NCO Academy while still a PFC...back then it was an automatic hardstripe or Corporal rating on graduation and usually an automatic tour to Vietnam where I ended up volunteering to go anyway, which in the Army was another automatic bump in rank making E-5 Buck Sargeant inside of a year. You look back on your life from time to time in little segments like that and realize how stupid young people are...at least I'm still married to the same woman after 37 years.

Ever had figs pickled in brandy?. Buddy of mine had an uncle that lived with him. definitely an old country Italian. Grew his own hot peppers and kept them on strings in the shed and racked up in the rafters according to age. Back to the figs. Had a couple fig trees in the yard. Harvest time he would gently wash them and place them in quart canning jars and pour in whatever amount of brandy needed to the top of the jar and seal it. Went over to my buddies place and darn near got crocked on the figs. But they were great. Then there was the time a bunch of us were walking a picket line in the dead of winter. Some genius got a bottle of homemade Italian wine. But that's a story for another time. Frank

I quit in 1991, so my buddies would have a chance to catch up Since then I am leery about drinking anything out of a can that I didn't open myself. This was reinforced early in my relationship with my present wife; we were at one of the kid's homes sitting around the backyard and I had set my half gone can of Pepsi on the picnic table, I turned back from a conversation for another sip.......................yech my wife thinking it was a dead soldier dropped her cigarette butt in it.
