Default Any Nature Photographers out there?

Inside "studio" shots of firearms can be fun, but when the weather turns nice and the local critters come out, so does my camera.

Feel free to post your own favorites!

Here's a local inhabitant of a wood duck box (nest)... it's an Eastern Screech Owl, red variety. They stand about 9" tall.

I don't get out to take wildlife photos near as much as I did a few years ago. Going to work 40 hours week will do that to you.

Here are a couple of photos from days gone by.

Some days you even sitting in the cold you can get a good photo or two.

but shooting on a Summer afternoon sure is more comfortable. These nest were all in the same aspen.

Nothing compared with what you Pros are showing.
But my little inexpensive Canon SX500IS gets some decent shots from my back window.

Bighorn sheep about five miles up the road from my office-10 miles from home.

Elk just over the pass from home:

Eagles in La Push (where they film the Twilight movies)

Roosevelt elk, Hoh Rain Forest, Olympia NP.

Grizzly hunting elk calf in Yellowstone NP

Grizzly, Denali NP, Alaska

Young grizzly, Yellowstone NP (near Sylvan Pass)

fur seals, Kenai , Alaska

Sea otter, Seward, Alaska

Last, Orcas, Seward, Alaska

These are just some I have on my laptop. The better ones are at home but I don't have time to transfer.

I snapped a couple about a month ago while we were passing through Charleston SC. Instead of my usual Nikon & assorted lenses, I used a Fuji
X100S which has a fixed 23mm f/2 lens (35mm equiv on the DX sized sensor). It's great for travel. Anyway, I had to get pretty close to fill the frame on these guys:

I think it's more being prepared. Went out in the field Thursday to teach some kids about animal tracks at an Earth Day Festival at a local dam-site. Saw 3 bald eagles and 8-10 osprey and a few falcons, beavers, etc. The camera was packed up in my pack, though. Highlight was sea gulls dive bombing a bald eagle. Missed a picture at Bob Marshal Wilderness (right along the border)==a bald eagle sitting on a well-picked ribcage of a deer in the snow. Again, didn't have the camera ready.

Just luck of the draw!

Great photos all around. Very impressive!

This beautiful Elk was a real traffic stopper just outside Cherokee, NC, just inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Notice, he has lost his radio collar, indicating this is one of the elk that is part of an experimental release into the National Park. The program began in 2001 and has been a big hit with tourists.

These are from today sitting in my den. Our resident fox has 4 kitts. All are doing well and have started to venture out a bit further from their den. Mom is very attentive every step of the way. That big tree fell a couple weeks back and the kitts are using it to hone their climbing skills.

Default critters!

I love trying to get photos of critters. Here's some that I've gotten over the last few years. The squirrel was taken with a Canon Rebel and the others were with my Canon 5D. I'd have to go back and see what lenses for each as they varied.

Canon 5D; Lens-EF400; Shutter-1/320; Aperture-6.3; ISO-500

Canon Rebel; Shutter-1/100; Aperture-5.6; ISO-800

Canon Rebel; Shutter-1/125; Aperture-6.3; ISO-800

Canon 5D; Lens-EF400; Shutter-1/400; Aperture-7.1; ISO-100

Canon 5D; Lens-EF400; Shutter-1/400; Aperture-6.3; ISO-200

Default egrets!

Here are some Egrets (I think) that I managed to catch on camera. We have a wildlife area nearby that you can see a ton of birds! A friend and I had a lot of fun figuring the strategy to get photos of these guys.

And a few hummingbirds:

Alright, here's a few macro critters. Hope I'm not wasting too much bandwith! Macro has become one of my favorite forms and it's pretty easy to find critters in the backyard for this.

These were taken with my Canon5D and mainly using the Canon 180 macro if I remember correctly.

I know I asked for some more data on the photos posted and realize I failed to do it too. I used my Nikon D-800 with a 17-35 f 2.8 & 70-200 f 4 for the boat shots. The Green snake was with a 18-200, which I have since sold.

Great pics, Nice to see we share more than one pastime. These are all Montana pics.

Stud wild horse from the Arrowhead Mt. herd featured on PBS Nature. Those are all bite marks and kick scars from fighting other stallions.

Long billed curlew, worming.

Sage thrasher

Freezeout Lake, MT, Spring migration of mainly snow geese and tundra swans. Rocky Mountain Front in background.

Do "Black Ducks aka Cormorants " count as natural? How about that mean looking craft? He was patrolling Hampton Rhodes as well as two big helos constantly orbiting overhead. There were three Carrier battle groups in port all at the same time, so the sentry s were really vigilant. Nikon D-800 70-200 F 4 for both shots.

Thank you digi-shots for bringing out all of everyone's photo talents. The Mrs and I have been looking through these photos for an hour. Wonderful stuff.

Thanks to the owners/admin/mod guys for the spell checker in here too, it's been a long day.
