I've never been called. My wife has been called twice and served as the jury fore person on both occasions. I wouldn't mind serving.

I was in a jury pool while another jury was being picked. My case was a resisting arrest and assaulting an officer case. The other case was of a man in bed with his GF playing "sex games" with a loaded revolver. The gun supposedly inserted where it should not have been and went off.

I've been on 2 courts-martial and thrown off another one. My biggest beef was the judge wanting me to abide solely by his instructions and not interpret the law myself. (I saw some jacked up instructions in my last case.) I figure the guy wanted a jury trial vice a judge, so he deserves a bit more than a jury being manipulated by the same judge. One has to look no further than the Aitken case to see why mindlessly listening to the dude in the black dress is a bad idea.

Military tribunals are not the same as civilian courts.

Wait.
Jury Duty?
Do you mean to tell me that we still have the Constitutional right to a trial?

No, the "jury" has MORE power in a court martial, or at least it used to. OTOH, the verdict need not be unanimous.

It is 1 year but it seems the Grand Jury is voluntary here. I actually got an "invite" to join but it was stated that it was up to me if I wanted on or not. They spelled out the time requirements and such and there was no way I could do it with my current job. Sounded kinda interesting though.

That's the point. Some have no jury and you're stuck with what the judge decides. Yeah, it only looks like a trial, but the rules are different.

I never said they were. The thread was about jury duty, and I figured my experiences fit within the acceptable bounds of thread drift.

It's all good. I'm not saying it doesn't belong here. Just pointing out that military trials are run under very different rules. Some reading this may not realize that.

I've only been on a jury once, and I was elected foreman. The deliberations took about 30 seconds. The individual was clearly guilty and admitted being so, but wanted the jury to nullify the law. Didn't happen. Easy day and the judge apologized for the waste of time we all went through.

The only reason it has no "jury" is that the defense wanted no "jury."
NJP, of course, is different, but aside from being NJ, is also usually voluntary on the part of the victim, oops, I mean defense.

I've been called 4-times & rejected, all you have to do is be clean cut and wear a suit & tie. You'll stand out like someone from another planet.
