Default Mt. Rainier National Park

Yesterday I made my annual trek to Mt. Rainier, or, "the Mountain" as it's known here in the NW. Spectacular, to say the least. I hiked to the 7000 foot level, just above Panorama Point. I met a couple there from Austin, TX, who were taking photos of each other, so I offered to take one of them together with Rainier in the background. They in turn offered to take my photo, which I've included.

The panorama shot is of the Tatoosh Range to the south, which isn't as high, but still impressive.

If you visit the NW, I highly recommend this as one of the "must see" places to visit. Unfortunately, the weather isn't always cooperative.

The wife and I made exactly the same trek 4 years ago. Really enjoyed it and look forward to doing it again. Were the Mosquitoes bad this year??

Not really, but there were biting flies that were somewhat annoying. And I left my bug repellant in the car!

I did my AIT training at Ft Lewis. The Mt. was
always a pleasant sight on a clear day. Rare
clearly but magnificent! Always wanted to climb it, but the Army had other plans.

You certainly had nice weather when you were there. I like that one myself, but it's getting tough for me to get up there.

Thanks for posting, always enjoy that view.

Pete

I think my driveway has more elevation change than Florida... it must drop a whole foot!

Thanks for the pictures, Robert. Always love to see The Mountain out.

We just got back this afternoon from Glacier Nat Park. The smoke from the Washington fires was clouding our view from Logan Pass and we could smell the smoke in Whitefish.

My wife snapped this one last Saturday on our way to a USPSA match in Puyallup. Not a very good picture, I think we were somewhere around Auburn when she took it.

I had an elderly neighbor who loaned me this picture years ago. I am sorry that I was not able to get a high quality scan of it at the time.
He and his wife were visiting Mt. Rainier in the '40s and left their car for a short hike. When they returned they found a bear family enjoying their car. The bears were in no hurry to leave and the couple were concerned about how aggressive they should be in trying to scare them away. Finally a well thrown snickers bar lured them out.
I love this photo.

I interviewed for a position Florida game dept a few years ago. It was cheaper to fly to Tampa, stay 3 days, rent a car and drive across the state than it was to fly to Tallahassee and return the same day.

Anyway, I saw a sign for "MT Dora", highest point in Florida (350 ft). The freeway off ramp was higher and I looked down on "it".
