Recommend some TV series?
I've enjoyed my way through The Shield, Longmire, Justified, and endured all 5yrs of Miami Vice, just because, LOL. (SPOILER FOLLOWS ! ! ) However, it jumped-the-shark for me after they killed-Zito. I tried the first episode of The Glades last night, and hated it(the character). Anything else in the cop-genre you think I would like?
I've just finished up with Game of Thrones, and I need something to take its place, also. What's good in horror, if anything? I fairly well liked Being Human, because of their moral turmoil with themselves, and good comedic interplay. I tried the first episode of True Blood, and it was like watching an Archie comic w/live actors...NO THANKS.
I've always heard good about Breaking Bad, but never taken the leap. Tried Sons of Anarchy over a year ago, and lost interest after the first few episodes. Perhaps I need to give it some more time?
House of Cards is MOST EXCELLENT, if you have Netflix. IF not, try to find both seasons on a free site of some sort.

Since you have Netflix I highly recommend 1-Adam-12. Seasons 2,3 and 5 are my personal favorites.
Some of the clothes are scary though (Late 60's through mid 70's. )
Edit: Of the shows you've seen, I've only watched Justified.

Quick search showed me the Bridge and VIkings BOTH looked good, and I had forgotten about BlueBloods....thanks!
The co-worker who recommended Justified to me said that I had to give it at least three or four episodes, and he was right.
I think I actually hit episode 5 or 6 before I said, Yeah...I LIKE this show. Walton Goggins having been on the Shield did help ease
me into it, LOL.

Breaking Bad didn't win all those awards for nothing. It is one of the very best. Another good one that I caught up on over the last couple of weeks if Boardwalk Empire. It's a great period piece.

One I like is "Death in Paradise" A BBC detective series set in the Caribbean. Here it is shown on one of the PBS channels.

Even if you don't like science fiction, if you haven't seen the reboot of Battlestar Galactica, it is not to be missed. For Horror, you might try Dexter and The Walking Dead.

I never watched one episode of Breaking Bad while it was being aired. My daughter gave me the whole DVD collection and said to watch it. I think I finished it all, 5 years worth, in about 2 weeks. Best series I have ever seen.

I will second Jeff's reference to The Walking Dead. It gets very high ratings and has a large following, so I know I am not the only one who enjoys it immensely.
It's not a "cop genre" as you mentioned, but the main character "Rick" is a Sherriff's deputy, and "law and order" type issues frequently are in play, along with survival of the fittest, and doing what is right vs doing what will keep you and your family alive......and the consequences of those decisions.
I wouldn't watch a pure "zombie" show, but the premise is that there is a chemical/biological agent causing the transformation and that has sent society into a downward spiral. There is a surprisingly good plot and character development, so don't be turned off by the zombie thing until you give it a chance. Michael Rooker is great in it as well and is a certified gun guy in real life.
My only recommendation is to start from the beginning and don't skip around on episodes!!! The first episode is great too!

The Wire is the best drama series I've ever seen.
Also check out the miniseries Band of Brothers if you haven't yet seen it.

Two I'm watching now. Neither of them are cop shows, but I really like them:
The Strain on FX. Modern plague of vampires tale by the great Guillermo Del Toro.
The Knick on Cinemax - great period piece about a hospital in New York in 1900. Not for the faint of heart. The surgical procedures are wonderfully gruesome.
Also, don't overlook Homeland. I blitz-watched the first seasons, and am eagerly awaiting the new one.

Best series on right now is The Strain.
Vampires (not glitter covered Emo types), gun play, not afraid to kill off irritating cast members, and plenty of suspense.
Down side is if you don't like cussing, it has a lot.

A bit offbeat... Lillyhammer. Netflix original.
If you appreciate the humor of Steven Van Zandt you might like it. 3rd season should be on Netflix soon.

I second "The Glades" along with "The Walking Dead". You might want to also take a peek at the Cinemax series "Strike Back". Each of these series is really good. Strike Back is about the British anti-terrorist squad. It has a great opening song, a lot of action, good looking women and a great plot.

I haven't regularly watched a TV series since "NYPD Blue" left the air, and now watch documentary stuff almost exclusively, especially the history stuff. Well, and baseball and some college sports. Just seem to have gotten in that habit.
I'd love to see "The Wire" one day.
Some of the old sitcoms are still very good: "Taxi", "Barney Miller", and "WKRP In Cincinnati" remain funny. So does the original Bob Newhart show. And of course, the Rocky & Bullwinkle stuff was wickedly written so kids could laugh at it while adults were tickled by the grownup stuff throughout the scripts.
"Foyle's War" was excellent, and I wish they would re-run "I, Claudius" and "The Last Viceroy", both of which were splendid.
I won't fail to watch "Band Of Brothers" whenever I get the chance.

Brain damaged Iraq war vet can make unrelated connections to find anything. Cross between Columbo and Howling Mad Murdock. "The Finder" only lasted 13 episodes and is on Netflix.

Try Wallender, the original Swedish series and not the Brit remake. It is an engrossing cop show.
Another good one is Spiral, a French cop series.
Agree with the guy above who said The Wire was the best TV drama he'd ever seen. Setting is Baltimore. It is, truly, a terrific series. It is currently available on either Amazon Prime or Netflix. I forget which. I watched it on DVD some years back.

"Unforgettable", about a NYPD female detective with a remarkable memory is good.
I watch, "Hawaii Five-0" because it's semi - tolerable and is on when nothing better is.
Have you tried, "Castle"?
And I watch, "Criminal Minds", despite disliking some aspects of it and two or three of the actors.
"Blue Bloods" is excellent by TV standards, and I hate NYC.
The original, "CSI" is usually okay, if not remarkable.
"NCIS" is pretty good, if with some credibility gaps. I'm looking for the New Orleans spin-off due this fall. Stars Scott Bakula, who was the captain on the USS Enterprise on one of the Star Trek series, the one that had the delectable- if- stoic T'Pol.
I think, "The Mentalist" is due back.
What amazes me is how ,"CSI: Miami" lasted as long as it did. Bad acting, uninteresting cast, ridiculous flashy, camera jump around scenes, etc.
I really enjoyed the summer series, "Reckless". I think it has another episode or two left.

Too bad it was cancelled just when the story was getting going.

I enjoyed about 90% of the series that have been listed, but was surprised that "Deadwood" and "The Sopranos" were not mentioned. Also good and not mentioned were "XIII The Series" and "In Plain Sight." I prefer to wait until the series is complete, then watch all over a few weeks.

For me, IMO.
The best series EVER was the PBS series on "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy". I have the DVD's and wish they would do it again.
I enjoy all the NCIS stuff.
Blue Bloods is to notch.
I wish they would do another Western in the style of Gunsmoke.
I like English (British)comedy---and we need another comedy that does not deal with sex---& more mysteries, Brit style.
Blessings

I'm surprise that no one has mentioned THE CLOSER Staring Kyra Sedgewick. There are 7 seasons and we just finished season 5 last night. It is a unique cop show and Kyra Sedgewick is awesome. I have disliked her since I saw her in Phenomenon with John Travolta and Robert Duval but she is awesome in The Colser. It also stars GW Bailey, Captain Harris from the old Police Academy movies and Tony Dennison who played Ray Luca in the old Crime Story with Dennis Farina some years back.
A very excellent cast for sure but the thing that I believe makes it stand out it the unusually great and CONSISTENT writing. And they break up the tone regularly. One episode will be humorous and then the next one may be a real tear jerker.
A lot of times a show will start out with a great season or even two great seasons but to maintain the level of excellence for 5 years is remarkable in my book.
We just ordered the first 3 seasons of a spin off from that show called Major Crimes staring Mary McConnell. She played opposite Kevin Kostner in Dances With Wolves. She was in several episodes of The Closer as a foil for Kyra Sedgewick and was not a very loveable character. I hope she is a little bit nicer in her show. Most of the rest of the cast of The Closer is in this spin off. Lookin' forward to seein' it. I just hope they have some of the same writers.

[QUOTE=Inspector-Callahan;138114694]I will second Jeff's reference to The Walking Dead.
I 2nd the Walking Dead. Also, start watching TURN: Washingtons Spies--on AMC. Its only in its first season and I HOPE, it lasts many more. Anyway--its well done and excellent in every aspect-though ive never heard or seen any of the actors in it before. Also, its fairly historically accurate and also uses actual historical people in the lead roles. Peope liek: Benjamin Talmadge--(AKA) Major John Bolton-5th Continental Dragoons, Major John Andre--British Intelligence Officer. One of his aides was a Captain Simcoe--an actual British dude from the times. Simcoein reality--was a gentleman--and NOT like the character in TURN. Also, Major Robert Rogers of Rogers Rangers fame. The only thing I really disagree with in this series--is how Major Rogers is displayed as a blood-thirsty killer.

I'm bored with it all. We need to all get cameras on our computers and watch each other type on the forum.

Oh, I love the Walking Dead. Already burned through it. Dex has some good play, but I've not been tempted. I loved BG as a kid, so I'll check it out.

Have seen it up until the Colm Meany character deals the crushing blow to the Senator who had it in for him....but, I've not been drawn back to it.

I was going to check it out last night, but it seems each episode is a movie, LOL. Averaging 90mins per. Going to have to wait for the weekend.

Several have mentioned the former, so I will look into it.

I'd love to see "The Wire" one day.
Some of the old sitcoms are still very good: "Taxi", "Barney Miller", and "WKRP In Cincinnati" remain funny. .

Missed several episodes of Blue, so that's on the To-View. Grew up with those sit-coms, and they are GREAT! Throw-in All In the Family, and Sanford and Son, to.
Last night, I checked out the first episodes of several. BLue Bloods was excellent from the first episode. Also enjoyed Vikings, and Gabriel Byrne is one of my fave actors. The Bridge was intriguing, and that female lead is quite an oddball. Boardwalk Empire with Steve Buscemi…didn't grab me. I was shocked to read they spend 18MILLION on that pilot episode! In no hurry for that one.

If your not just into Cop Shows? try a few old Westerns on for size. The complete series for: Daniel Boone, Have Gun Will Travel, Rawhide, Cheyenne, Wanted Dead or Alive, The Texan and many others--are available. Oh and--currently for me--its Maverick...........

Good idea Sip. My wife and I both have "skype" on our lap tops but we've never used it. Mostly the only ones we'd "skype" with would be each other and we are sitting 4 feet apart in our recliners for most of the day for most days.
We just....talk to each other. It's a lost art I know but, bein' the traditionalists that we are, we're tryin' to hold on.
