Trying not to freak out
Alright, trying to remain calm. Anybody that knows me, knows that I like cooking meat. Beef, chicken, fish, pork, Bison and most anything else that formerly had a heart beat.
One of the spices I put on nearly everything I cook is rubbed sage.
We're almost out of rubbed sage.
No problem right? Just go and get some more right?
Wrong!
Walmart, no rubbed sage. Food Lion, no rubbed sage. Dollar General, no rubbed sage.
I may have to dig into my smudging supplies, sit there and separate the sweet grass from the sage.
According to my wife there's another Walmart we're going to check in a little over a week. Got my fingers crossed.

Snubby, I'm the same way with cilantro, or if you can find it, culantro. Love the flavor it gives to food.

If you like sage or juniper, just shoot a mule deer that's been feeding on them. The flavor is in the meat. It's different, but I can't say that I'd seek it out.
I think the grocers here have sage among the other spices, but haven't looked. Do you have a Safeway or Kroger nearby?

You can rub sage but you can't rub rhubarb.

Sage is usually with the other spices.
We live in a dinky little town in the mountains of West Virginia. It's beautiful out here but there's not much that's nearby.
We come down out of the mountains once a month or so to stock up on groceries.
We have a doctors appointment in a little over a week and my wife tells me that there's grocery stores near our doctors office.
As others pointed out, I can always just order some.

If you can't find the sage, Zachary and Natayo will help you clear the meat out of the freezer. Won't need cat food for a while. Do you also put sage in the cat food?

I feel your pain.
When I first moved to Tn., I lived out in the country with nothing but a 3rd level Wally Wirld for groceries, within about a fifty mile distance.
You couldn't get the necessities to cook a decent meal.
Spices, vinegar, good meat, it was useless.
But they had almost an entire aisle of bottled barbecue sauces!
There's a Kroger where I live now. Not great, but it's better than WW.
Hope they open a Public in the near future.

Snubby, I know exactly what you're going through. Years ago, my father-in-law took care of that problem for us. He planted a bush of culinary sage for us at our home. My wife uses it quite a bit in cooking...everything from seasoning to stuffing.
Ever since then, wherever we've lived, we've always made sure that we've planted some sage out in our herb garden by the kitchen door.
Other plants we've included in our culinary herb gardens have been thyme, rosemary, oregano, chives, dill, peppermint, apple mint, basil, camomile, and horseradish.
When "push comes to shove," it's pretty darn hard to beat fresh herbs from the garden.
Good luck in your quest.

Big ol' Zach's cool and mellow while that wacky upside down skunk Natayo sometimes gets locked out on our enclosed back porch when we're preparing meat. We've given him a chicken leg before to keep him occupied.
We used to lock him up in our back bedroom but that's become my leather storage area.

Tees me off.....
It tees me off when I can't find what I want in stores because it's not the biggest seller. I went to sporting goods in Walmart looking for a baseball and was told I was stupid to look for a baseball because it wasn't baseball season.

You need some relatives who can get you what you want. I ship my brother WA apples and he sends me NM green chile. USPS is everywhere.

I've heard of cat gut, but never *cat leather*...must be what Catwoman wears?
I grow sage but it didn't do too well this year after a rough winter last year. A couple stragglers held on. If you get desperate, I can send you some...not a 50 pound bale, but some.
pm if needed

Don't you have a Piggly Wiggly nearby?
They'll have it back near the meat counter where the sausage making supplies are located.

we grow and dry all our herbs, that way you know what your getting and it's fresh. The last place I lived we were surrounded by wild sage and sweet grass.
