Illegal to display handguns in store windows.
There is a law in four states that makes it illegal to display handguns, pictures of handguns or to put up signs advertising the sale of handguns in store windows. My state of Texas is one of those states. I had no idea this law existed, especially in Texas.

I'm no California Lib but as an FFL holder I wouldn't display handguns in a business window. Open invite for smash & dash. Wonder what their insurance company thinks about it?
But the businesses should have to right to do it if they want to.

Seeing as how it is illegal to carry a handgun in a manner that others might see it (open carry) in California, Texas too, such a law concerning the display of a gun in a window would seem to fit right in. Maybe Bloomberg can get this type of thing on more ballots around America. Hoplophobes... they cry out for your understanding and mercy.

Im fine with that,as long as the usage of the middle finger--isnt outlawed. :-)) But then again,if it is? ill bet they dont know the Italian or German version of that salute I got to use the Amerian version of the one-finger salute--toan Italian guy who was in Germany who was speeding and almost hit Susanne while she was crossing the street. He blew his weak horn, stopped the tiny red car, turned around and looked at me while I gave him said salute. Lucky for me no Polizei were around--since its illegal to use that salute in Germany--or so I was told. .

Years back I frequented a gun shop that did display guns in the window. The glass was heavily barred and, even smashing the glass, guns couldn't be removed. Even with that, the guns could be removed and placed in a safe when the store was closed. There are ways to make the display secure.

They don't have to be displayed in a window for us to find them.

Someone could look at them wrong and insight them to go on a killing spree.
You know how dangerous guns are...

Yes, it is against the law in Germany to do so.
When we lived there, my wife would often salute German drivers.
She once did receive a ticket for such, 40 DM ($20)
paid on the spot to the officer. Pretty much stopped the saluting.

I was working in an office just south of downtown in Chicago repairing a computer years ago. I had my company car that had the company logo all over parked on the street 20 floors down. The cars winshield washers quit so carried a squirt gun pistol around for a while but it really didn't help much. I had it on the front seat (it was out of ammo) with a lot of other junk. Some goof walked by and saw the gun and called the police who in turn called my company. They got in touch with me and I met about 5 cops around my car down stairs. I showed the gun to the cops, and we all had a laugh. I held the gun up high in my right hand and signaled to all in the surrounding buildings with my left hand middle finger extended. Who ever it was that called the police did indeed see my gesture. They called my company and they called me.

The aim of those laws are to make gun ownership like smoking. I was on another forum when someone posted about CVS no longer selling tobacco and someone from another country said something to the effect of "they sell tobacco at pharmacies in the US, do they sell guns too"?
That same forum will delete my posts trying to correct anti's with their no politics rule. Seems an anti statement is ok but you can't say anything back.

This is one of the funniest mental pictures I've had. My man, you just made my day.
Drivin' around in Chicago, holding a (water) pistol out the window...just imagine the response today! You'd be drawing fire from three agencies and the rooftops.

Ok, I get the law against displaying hand guns in windows. Doing so just isn't a good idea but, the law against advertising the sale of hand guns, puzzles me. Every gun dealer I've ever seen, has Glock, S&W, Ruger, etc.....signs in their windows, most of which contain a picture or at the very least, a silhouette of a hand gun.

I can't think of another Industry that as more regulation than the Firearms Industry. Not even the Pharmaceutical or Liquor Industry.

Makes perfect sense. Because the mere sight of anything that is a shape of a gun will cause the viewer to instantly fly into a murderous frenzy. Just the other day I say a sideways letter "L" and almost lost my control. I could have started a genocide!

Interesting the story cites law going back to 1923 banning gun stores from advertising handguns for sale. So much for the good old days, eh?

I think any bar owner in PA may challenge that statement. The old Keystone State has a veritable maze of arcane liquor laws.

Heh heh, what actually prompted me to give the Italian guy the finger, was not only after he tooted the horn at Susanne--he gave her the Italian raised fist-turned and saw me--flipping him off. Susanne thanks me for defending her--but chewed my hind enough that I probably lost a pound. I cant remember if we were in Goslar--or Lubeck??? I think Goslar--since thats where Rommel and another famed soldie (Guderian I think?)--shared an apartment--when theey were both Majors.
Anyway, Susanne was cold tome for awhile--till I bought her a nice supper.
