Default Any of you on a college football forum? Are your members jerks?

We have a new coach, so I've been watching the college football forum more than I typically do.

The S&W forum is such a breath of fresh air compared to the football forum. There are so many jerks on the football forum that it amazes me. For example, one of the forum members recently posted a thank you to a long time coach. The coach hasn't had super success as a position coach, but he's a good person and a good influence on the players. As I guessed, a bunch of guys respond with negative comments and insults. I honestly believe that the jerks are the minority, but they are so outspoken, that the good guys are afraid to say anything. I guess freedom of speech means that they are entitled to be jerks.

Are you guys on football boards for your college of choice? Is your board monitored like the S&W forum, or is it a free-for-all?

I think that the people in our state are some of the best in the country, but you wouldn't know it by reading the college football forum.

Sir,

I'm not surprised that this happens even in a traditionally civil place like Nebraska. Such people are scattered about everywhere now -the net provides them with places to revile, ridicule, bloviate, etc. without having to leave the house. I can imagine what a forum like that would be like, and I have no desire to put up with it, even though I enjoy college football. I just discuss the game with my family, friends, and fellow church members.

This is the same reason, by the way, that I abandoned all other firearms forums nearly 12 years ago and now frequent only this one. There's some of that here, but it's much better controlled.

Regards,
Andy

I have to wonder what some of those people are like in person. I can't imagine they would have any friends if they act the same as they do on the forum.

I just can't understand why people seem to take pleasure in insulting other people. What is the point? Unfortunately, the jerks seem to be the loudest and they often jump on anyone that tries to say something nice about someone that they don't like.

You will find the best people on gun forums. I believe shooters and sportsmen are friendly and will help anyone get started in the shooting sport and will answer your questions as they have done for me. IMO

This forum is by far the best I've been involved in throughout the years. It is generally well mannered and when it isn't the mods step in, which I like!

I'm currently a member of a football forum which regularly gets out of hand. Very rude.

And I was a member of a camera forum a few years ago, I got tired of being insulted for having a difference of opinion. You know, many people think their opinions are fact...

I was on a college football forum recently and if the team is winning everything is wonderful and the coach is a genius, a nice guy and a great humanitarian, but a few loses and the fans will call him every kind of bad name in the book. It then goes way beyond that with hate that is downright scary to him and his family. Its quite amazing how sports and winning and loosing games effects peoples minds.

I go to some for Mizzou but read only. No posts. For the most part folks are civil. Then the trolls sneak in, flame the joint and set back so proud of their carnage.

I used to frequent a few gun forums before I came here to ask some questions about a Smith I had just bought. I received quick and appropriate answers. The more I came here to read and soak up S &W knowledge the more I liked it. I quit going to a couple I had used in the past. They were, ahem, dysfunctional. Some fellows argued so hard with each other I feel it would have ended up in gun play if they would have been in the same room.

I don't miss them.

This one is sort of like when you were young and Ma said no arguing at the dinner table or you'll go to bed hungry. One could discuss it but no arguing.

I am not on any sports forum but I am on a few car forums and one that used to be very active isn't so much anymore for a variety of reasons including Facebook and production ended so very limited number of new owners compared to when they were still making new ones but I think part of the reason is one guy who apparently thinks he is God's gift to the Internet and rude and obnoxious and stomps on anyone and anything he perceives as wrong including, but not necessarily limited to, anyone who has an opinion that differs from his, a new thread started on a question that was asked and answer five years ago, and general gramar-nazi type behavior. At first it seemed kinda like he was just being sarcastic etc but over time you get the feeling that he is just a lonely person trying to feel important or something along those lines.

The basic run down goes thus.
Nebraska just canned their head coach, not allowing him to complete the season.
It's a move generally reserved for the off season when no one really cares.
For this, I assume there are untold volumes of behind the scenes drama involved for such a move.
End result is that be they for or against, all are stunned, leading to ample heat behind many discussions.
Nebraska backs their team with a level of passion that dwarfs anything you'll find in the whole of the NFL.

Being a transplant, I have the unique ability to call out with a "GO PACK GO" which invokes about 15 to 20 seconds worth of confusion, affording me time to make the door.

Personally I am unable to wrap my brain around how anyone can get so worked up as to be exhilarated or devastated over something so utterly trival as the outcome of a sporting event.
It's not that I don't appreciate watching a good game, though it is not high on my list of favorite things to do, I am just unable to have my self worth of emotions state etc be derived from or based on who wins or loses a game. But then I have also never understood how anyone can do things like scream and faint at a concert. I simply don't ride the emotional roller coaster which some folks seem to have a season pass on.
Perhaps I am impaired in the empathy department but I can't even imagine that the most empassioned or the most rational explanation of how it works for those who are so inclined will ever allow me to truly comprehend what it is like to have such an experience.

No kidding.
I couldn't watch that game.
About the time Wi started using NE's offense linemen as battering rams to sack the QB, I knew I would be unpopular for a while.

I really like to watch a good football game whether it be college or pro. Now to say that I am a KY Wildcats fan. Football team is getting better just hope they can stay on track. I will root for any SEC team when the play in a bowl or Championship game even Tenn. To me a well played game with good sportsmanship out weighs a blowout any day. That being said I have only seen one game completely in the last few years. Went to Indy to watch them play the Packers. Indy won still good game. Most time have to find out score on ESPN because I fell asleep.

Not to flame them but states like Nebraska and Alabama have no other sports to attract their time, energy, and attention. What frosts me is when a high school kid gets death threats if he chooses to go to school somewhere besides his home state.

I have been to Lincoln a couple of times to watch my Oklahoma State Cowboys play the Huskers. The first time was not too pleasant but the second time was a wonderful experience and their fans were incredibly friendly and made us feel quite welcome. They have extreme knowledge of college football teams and knew more about my team and its players than I did. The Nebraska Scout message board forum gets pretty hateful but not half as bad as other forums.

Well, I did enjoy last year's game much better.

I'm proud that Auburn never quit trying. They were just outplayed this year.
