Default Entertaining Movie Bad Guys

Some bad guys in the movies are just plain fun to watch, even though what they're doing is wrong.

My vote for #1 would be Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom, in Con Air.

My vote for #2 would be "Curly" Bill Brocius, in Tombstone.

Who do you like?

Bill the Butcher, as played by Daniel Day Lewis, in the Martin Scorsese film Gangs of New York. Impeccable.

Russell Crowe as Ben Wade in 3:10 to Yuma. He turned out to have a heart but they should have left him bad.

Not a guy, but Sharon Stone's character Catherine Trammell in Basic Instinct stands out.

Second place: Joe Pesci in Goodfellas and Casino.

Since several of you have now brought up classic Westerns, I feel compelled to add Henry Fonda in "Once upon a time in the West"; just because he played such a cool evil guy after a long acting career of never playing a really bad person.

Good post, Absalom! How could I have forgotten this one? If you read any reprise of Fonda's career, this portrayal (Frank) is always cited as being noteworthy.

Darth Vadar
Jack Warden in "Used Cars"
Eli Wallach in "The Magnificent Seven"
Peter O'Toole in "Night of the Generals"
I think one of the things I don't like about modern movies is they develop the bad guy character too much. It's like they want to make you feel hate for a fictional character. I resent that.

Robert Mitchum as Max Cady in Cape Fear. Robert De niro was also great in the remake.

I liked Gary Oldman as Drexel in True Romance.

Blue Duck in Lonesome Dove

Alan Rickman has been a good badguy in several movies such as Die Hard and Quigley Down Under.

Curly Bill and Bill the Butcher are great choices since they were probably fun to hang around with when they weren't killing people. I liked Brad Pitt as Jesse James and Javier Berdem as Anton Chigurh because when they weren't killing people they took great joy in intimidation and making people squirm with their head trips. I like Bardem so much I had the same stupid haircut when I was fourteen!

For some reason, I always remember James Coburn in Payback.

Also enjoyed Lee Marvin in the western 7 Men From Now.

Just pretend this is witty.

I almost forgot "Little Bill" of Big Whiskey, WY.... Gene Hackman in "Unforgiven". He was a mite harsh on English Bob for sure.
William Muny, in the same movie was no easy cheese either, when it comes to it; "reckon I've killed everything that walks or crawls".

P.S. Please add Cate Blanchett as Marissa Wiegler in "Hanna." Supremely evil and desperately insane.
